"Why won't you let me see her?! I WANNA SEE HER!"
"Sir imma have to ask to lower your voice, if you can't do that than you'll have to leave."
I took a deep breathe and looked around the room and saw a few nurses looking at me with concerned looks. I pushed my fingers through my tangled hair and looked back at the nurse that I was talking too, "Can I please just see my baby?" I pleaded. "Sir your friend isn't ab-" she got cut off by a doctor coming from the back with a clipboard. "Is there a Rayan Lopez here?" he said while looking down at his clipboard than back up. I pushed pass the nurse and rushed over towards him. "Are you Dr. James?" I asked. He nodded, fixed his glasses and started walking to the back. "You must be Rayan, well follow me." he demanded as he pushed the door open and walked down the long hall, I followed him. There were so many rooms each with a different number on them.
"I'm sorry to inform you that your girlfriend, Sierra, has been in a terrible car accident. She was hit by a very intoxicated driver. The driver was killed in the horrific accident and Sierra was severely injured. Sh- she broke her left arm, fractured her left ankle and her ribs were almost crushed in this incident."
He paused and looked at me with a sad expression on his face. I could tell that he wasn't telling me something. It was bad enough that I had tears in the corners of my eyes but I tried my best to keep them from falling. I swallow the lump in my throat and whipped the corner of my eyes.
"Is there anything else?" I asked.
"Well she was hit pretty bad and her skull was damage, causing her brain to be damage as well. We think that she has memory loss but unsure if it is long or short term. She currently is in a coma and we're unsure when she will awaken from it, but she isn't on life support, her heart is working perfectly fine. We'll have to keep her in the hospital until further notice."
"Can I see her?" I said without making eye contact with the doctor.
He nodded and turned the corner into this hall. I tried to keep the tears from falling from my eyes but it was no use because they just kept falling. We approached this one door that read "Room 213." and there was a paper taped on the wall next to the door that read:
Patient Number: 416
Patient Name: Sierra Dawn Sanchez
Incident: Car accident, hit by drunk driver.
Injury: Left arm broken, left ankle fractured, memory loss. non- specific.
I looked through the window and saw Sierra lying on the bed wrapped in bandages, there were cords connecting from machines to her body. Her room had a large window and a bathroom, but it was so bland and there was no decorations.
"Your number was the only number in her emergency contact list so we couldn't contact any other members of her family." he said.
"Can I- can I like go in there?" I asked while looking at the doctor.
Dr. James pulled out his key and unlocked the door, I walked in alone and heard the door close behind me. I looked back and watched as Dr. James disappeared down the hallway. I walked over to Sierra's bed and touched her skin, it was soft yet cold. Seeing my baby lie in a hospital bed was by far the hardest thing I've ever seen, her body laid there so lifeless and bruised. I clenched my fist and looked down at my feet, I felt tears rolling down the sides of my cheeks. I whipped them away and walked to the other side of the bed, I pulled up a chair and sat at the side of the bed. I sniffed loudly as I reached for Sierra's hand and held it gently. I kissed it softly and than I let loose. I let all my tears pour from my eyes and I could feel my body trembling inside. "Babe..?" I said quietly. "Don't worry babe you'll get through this. We'll get through this together, I promise." I heard my crackly voice echo throughout the room.
"We'll get through this together. I promise."
