Justice lay there, eyes open wide staring at the ceiling.
This was it.
This was the day she'd be waiting for. She was going to Muerteros. The place where her father had lived, the place where her future husband was waiting for her, the place so far away from everything she knew.
She was freaking out.
Every so often she'd shoot up clutching her chest in panic and anxiety at the mere thought of leaving and then she'd have to calm herself down again and lay back down. Not that she could get to sleep.
She'd been awake since she bid Demetri goodnight at her bedroom door. Which is something she did often these days.
Things between them were .... Strange. Every time Justice thought about how she cried in front of him, she cringed inside and even more when she thought of how she'd grabbed onto his hand. She wanted to curl up and die. But then that only reminded her of how he'd held on to her hand until they got home, and of how he carried her to her room as she cried into his chest, and of how he waited outside of her door until she'd stopped crying. She was pretty sure that he didn't know she knew that.
After that she figured she'd better cut him some slack on the whole silent treatment front. She couldn't bring herself to tell the truth when Ava had questioned her on her sudden change of heart.

"Why are you being so nice to him?"

Because he was nice to me while I cried like a blubbering baby?

No, she told her it was better to be civil with him seeing as he would be the only person she knew once they got to Muerteros.

She was a little more than civil though. In the month that had passed since her parting with Angel, she believed that she and Demetri were almost ... friends.
She wouldn't go as far as to outright say they were, but they were comfortable enough around each other that to other people it would look that way.
Lately it had been even worse because Ava, Joaquín and the rest of the staff were busy preparing for the trip home so they hardly had any spare time to spend with her meaning that she spent all of her time with Demetri.
He checked up on her skill levels, and he was particularly interested in whether she had developed any special abilities.

"What's more special than this?" She had said leaning over to touch his hand. Demetri watched with pride as her eyes swivelled to that mesmerising silver colour he liked so much.

"I told you before, that's a part of your transformation. Pretty soon that'll be permanent." He said pulling back his hand softly. "What I'm talking about is another type of ability."

"Like your mind link?"

He had told her about his ability to hold conversations with members of his family without opening his mouth. Demetri and Emilio had showed her how it worked with the most bizarre game of Chinese whispers she'd ever played, but nonetheless she thought it was cool. That's why she was a little disappointed when they found out there was nothing special she could do.

"I guess all my supernatural-ness comes from my Wardon side."

"Oh?" Demetri's eyebrows quirked.

"Yeah, see when I have a ... vision, as rare as that is, I see things when I'm awake."

Demetri looked at her blankly. "So ...?"

"Well, Wardons tend to have their premonitions when they're sleeping. Like prophetic dreams."

"I see," he said nodding his head.

"It's ... Whatever." Justice shrugged. "I'd much rather have the mind link."

After that he'd given her her last examinations for speed, strength, agility and stamina and then tested her on her knowledge of all that she'd been taught. Obviously he'd been pleased with what he'd seen because he told her she was ready. That had been two days ago and she was still freaking out.
