You + Me= what?

My Tutor saves me

"Hello?" I ask as the unknown number pops up on my phone. "Hey baby girl" I hear a male voice say. "Who is this?" I ask and Hunter looks at me. "You don't recognize your dad's voice?" he says and I gasp. "Why are you calling me? How did you get my number?" I ask and the tears well up in my eyes. "You're my daughter I can find out anything I want about you" he says and I feel Hunter's eyes on me as a tear rolls down my face. "What do you want?" I ask but it was barely audible. "I just wanted to hear your voice and to tell you that I'm coming back to Tennessee and I want to see you and your brother" he says and I start shaking my head. "No, you can't. We don't want to see you" I say and the tears run down my face faster and Hunter stands up and walks over to where I am standing. "Is that anyway to treat your dad? I haven't seen you in seven years" he says and I hang up and fall into Hunter's open arms. "Are you ok?" he asks as he holds me and I shake my head and continue to cry on his chest.

He carries me back to the truck, because I can't stop crying long enough to focus on walking. He sets me down in the driver's seat and I slide over and he hops in and starts the truck. He has one hand on the steering wheel and the other arm wrapped around my shoulders pulling me closer to him. The only noise on the way back to his house is my quiet sobbing, and even though I try to hide it he knows that I'm still crying.

We get back to his house and he slides out and I get out beside him. As soon as my feet hit the ground he has his arm around me. We walk into what I'm guessing is a lounge room, he sits me down on the couch, and sits down beside me. He looks me in the eyes and he looks worried. "Kate, you're shaking" he says and I lift up my hand and see it moving. He pulls me too him and just hugs me.

"Are you ok?" he asks and I shake my head. "What happened? Do I need to punch someone?" he say and looks very serious. "My dad left me when I was nine" I say and he keeps staring at me. "I haven't talk to him since he told me that I couldn't be his princess anymore" I say remembering when he told me and how I started crying and he just patted my head. Hunter's clenched his jaw. "So, when he called me just then I didn't respond well" I say. "I don't blame you!" he says and stands up. "How could someone do that to a nine year old, and not just any nine year old. YOU" he says and sits back down beside me and hugs me again. I told him exactly how I remembered it. "I came home from school and all these boxes were in the yard, so I asked my dad why. And he told me he was leaving, and I said 'are you taking your princess with you?' and he said 'You can't be my princess anymore. You can't really be anyone's princess because no one is really a prince or a king.' Then he turned put the boxes in his car and left" I say and Hunter just stares at me. "That's not true" he says and I keep looking at him. "You are someone's princess, they just have to open their eyes long enough to see" he says and I hug him again.

"Do you want me to take you home?" he asks. "I probably should" I say and he nods. He drives to my house and walks me inside and we say goodbye and leave. I tell my mom that I talked to my dad, she nods, and goes to her room leaving me alone with my thoughts. I lay down in bed, but I can't sleep. I'll talk to Ashley tomorrow and tell her, but I can't stop thinking about the day he left. I glance at my clock and it says it ten o'clock. I feel my phone vibrate and I see Hunter's face and answer it. "Hey" he says. "Hey" I reply. "I figured you wouldn't be able to sleep" he say and I nod. "Yeah well you were right" I say. "You should really sleep" he says. "I know, but I can't not focus long enough to fall asleep." "Ok, close your eyes and I will talk to you until you fall asleep" he say and I smile. "How will you know if I'm asleep?" I ask. "I just will" he says and I close my eyes and I almost instantly fall asleep. I hear Hunter talking to me, but I can't understand what he's saying. Right before I drift off to sleep I hear Hunter whisper "Goodnight princess" and I fall asleep as if that was the magic word.
