The stench of disinfectant burned her nose as she sat in the waiting area to hear her test results. She didn't know what to feel whether she should be happy or should be sad. If the test was positive, a new bundle of joy would enter a terrifying world, haunted by the bruises she was receiving every night. Her kind of life was not the one a child needed. The results were taking too long and she soon became impatient. When she started to feel sick, she hoped it was not pregnancy. She prayed for it to go away, but what was done couldn't be undone.

She looked back on the countless times he had grabbed her threw her on the bed and got his way. Some of which she hated and enjoyed. In the bed it had felt as if the fingers of an Angel were   caressing her tender body.

An ocean of tears started to roll down her cheeks. The door to the doctor's office opened and he walked out slowly. The years for him to retire were drawing closer, but he didn't look worried. The pride on his face was the look of any great doctor.

"Your test result came back positive, you are indeed pregnant Miss- sorry i didn't get your name" the doctor said.

"No name necessary, thank you for the results" she said as she quickly grabbed the results and ran.

Before she knew it she was standing outside the hospital, looking around, lost and confused. She felt all the energy drain from her body as she sank to the ground in a fit of shame, anger and despair.

Picking herself up off the ground, she slowly made her way to the bus stop, hailed a cab and stared longingly through the window as the drive brought her home. She made her way up to the top of the building where their apartment stood. Unbeknown to her, there was a shadowy figure waiting for her behind the blinds.

She stepped inside and stood still for a moment, listening. She readjusted herself and kept a calm composition. He would not be home this early but she had to play it safe. The rooms had always had a dark energy something about them made her tremble inside. The dark grey windows were always closed, not letting any life in.

The tables and shelves held nothing of sentimental value, there weren’t any pictures of their time together, only decorative objects of every size and shape. Their shadows craving the touch of the sun.

The different shades of grey on the walls seemed to drain the life out of the apartment. There was a sudden rage of anger that she felt as she threw a glass into the walls. Before she could wreck the anything else in the room, she felt the violent grip of a person behind her. Panicking as she slowly turned around to see the slightly amused face of her husband. With a hint of concerned in his tone he said.

"Are you okay, why are you trying to damage what i have worked so hard to build?”

Still trembling she replied “I am sorry, I am just so tired"

"If you’re tired you should be sleeping, not throwing a tantrum" he shouted.

I don't want to sleep, I'm tired of this, all of this, and you beating me and using me like a piece of meat!" She screams

"A very well taken piece of meat, where were you today" he fired back. The fear of losing her life consumed her as she tried to think of a way to lie

“I was at work" she said

"Don't even bother lying, I was on my way to buy you lunch and apologize for hitting...well for what happened last night but you weren't there"

"Well after a while, I went to the spa to relax, it's been a long day" she said as she tried to fake a wry tone in her voice.

"Keep telling me lies and see where you it gets you, I know you weren't at the spa because I checked all the possible places you could be." He shouted
