Tension filled the air as everyone in the dining room seated themselves in their respective chairs for dinner. Both couples were positioned on opposite sides of the table. As everyone settled down, no attempt was made to interrupt the silence that now enveloped the room. Alex sat, slightly drenched with sweat as he bit his lips to prevent himself from saying anything he felt was inappropriate.

It was difficult for him to talk to a noise monger he’d so often called the cops on. His eyes wondered across the room in which they sat; he was quite impressed with the order of things. Alex’s attention returned to the dinner table when he felt Jennifer’s hands on his.

He turned to her and she mouthed the words ‘relax, then tilted her head towards the cue cards he had on his lap. He nodded in response and turned his attention to Kenneth whose thoughts couldn’t be further away from what was taking place.

Sasha walked out of the kitchen, pushing a tray towards the dinner table, as the aroma of the food slowly trailed behind her. Flamboyant colours graced the plates, with each hue looking particularly divine. Once Sasha set the main course on the table, she took her place at Kenny’s side and stared at the couple in front of them.

“The food looks delicious" Jennifer said.

“Wait until you taste it, my wife’s an amazing cook." said Kenneth, smiling proudly at Sasha.

“Let your taste buds be the judge of that.” Sasha responded.

“Okay." Alex said, taking a huge mouthful that didn’t quite register with his body causing him to cough a little.

“Don’t tell me it’s that bad."

“Quite the opposite.” He quickly responded, clearing his throat. “It’s so good I tried to eat it all at once!” He laughed nervously.

Jennifer proceeded to eat and nodded in agreement with what Alex said.

“So Kenneth” Jennifer said questioningly.

“What do you do for a living?”

“I’m a lawyer."

“And not just any lawyer.” Sasha butted in. “He’s one of the top youngest attorneys in the state.”

“And I would like to think I’m better than some of the older ones too.” Kenneth smiled.

“Well that’s great! I’m a journalist- actually, an editor.” Jennifer responded.

“Maybe she could interview you for an article Kenny.” Sasha said.

‘Yes, that’s a great idea.” Jennifer added.

“Sure, I don’t see why not.” Kenneth said.

“Aren’t you two glad I set this dinner up, more publicity for both of you.” Sasha said.

“So, Alex, what do you do for a living?” Sasha asked.

“I am a tech analyst.”

“Meaning?” Sasha asked

“He analyzes technical data honey.” Kenneth said.

“Not exactly. A lot of persons make that assumption, but it’s just a fancy term to hide the fact that I just get paid by technological companies to use their new gadgets or fix the kinks they might have. So, it’s similar, but not so similar.” He said nervously.

“Innocent mistake, thanks for the clarification.” Kenny said, taking a sip of his wine.

“No problem.” Alex said, shyly going back to picking his food, unaware of the vein bulging from Kenneth’s forehead.
