Kagura hurriedly held Sougo close to her and rushed inside to call an ambulance. Judging by how far they are out, it's going to take a while. She kept muttering the same sentence over and over again, metronome sounds resounding in her mind, Don't die, Sadist, don't die, Sadist, don't die, Sadist.
His hands were still and freezing. She rushed to her bedroom and came back out with a blanket and covered him. Tears were visibly accumulating in her eyes, her mind was flushed with discouraged thoughts, and when the sirens were heard outside she hoisted him in her shoulders and ran towards the large truck. She gently laid him down on the bed and got into the truck.
"It's going to be fine, Kagura-san. I'm sure your boyfriend will be fine. We will make sure of it," the doctor beside her reassured. His mask was pulled down underneath his chin. He said it'll be fine, but his face said otherwise.
She didn't bother to correct him. There's no time for such a childish fit. She bit her lip and choked back a sob. He was so persistent on winning he didn't bother to tell me... What a dummy.
She remembers. The moment she saw the papers on the desk... Her heart sank to an abyss of forgotten nightmares, the frenetic memories bouncing about her head. All the bad things drowned her, to the point of which she couldn't escape nor breathe. She remembers- the moment her and the Sadist stepped foot on the same land, in the same vicinity... it was like all outside worlds were translucent, distant, gone. Because all they needed was each other. They were each other's light source that barrelled in their dejected paths. They both lost something. They both lost something so incredibly dear to them they forgot how to live. They went to violence. They went to denial. They went to pain.
She remembers her mom saying, 'No brave person in the world will be alone. That's why our family... Will live forever.' Liar.
The ambulance came to a sheer halt, startling Kagura out of her thoughts. She inhaled a deep breath, saying prayers and pleads as she jumped out. The hospital was bright. Decorated in lights that illuminated her face. It was late, now. As they walked in, the faces of the people where melancholic and scared. She closed her eyes shut. It was painful. So painful. Her heart wrenched when she heard a small child whisper, "Nii-san's gonna be okay, right?"
They sat her directly outside the room, and the repetitive beep, beep, beep was attached to her mind.
She thought about Okita Sougo. The man who's capable of holding his sword against her for hours on end. The man who can very easily please and displease her all at once. The man who understands who she is and accepts it. Even if a rude comment is said afterwards. The man who knows her like the back of his hand. The man who holds a place in her heart... The man that might leave her forever.
She exhaled a shaky breath and whimpered out, "The man that I love...." She half heartedly chuckled. "How pathetic am I? Admitting defeat to an *ss." A small boy approached her. He was a spitting image of Sougo. Only azure eyes. He looked about five or six.
"Why're you sad, Nee-san?" He asked, sitting down next to her.
She smiled at him, "Nee-san is fine, I promise. What's your name?"
"My name is koga! Here, Nee-san." He handed her a blue, clean handkerchief. He hugged her tightly, "for some reason, it makes me reeeeeally sad when Nee-san's sad."
She hugged him back, and wiped her eyes, "Koga-chan, promise Nee-san you'll be a good healthy boy when you grow up, kay?"
He looked at her with gleaming eyes of youth, "Kay!"
She ruffled his surprisingly soft hair and asked, "So, Koga-chan, what grade are you in?"
She nearly lost it when he adorably counted the years on his fingers. His face went from total concentration to cloud nine and excitedly yelled, "I'm in kindergarden!!"
She giggled and hushed him, "okay, okay, Koga-chan, quiet down a bit!"
Koga grinned and they both talked and laughed for what seemed hours until he had to go back. His mother thanked Kagura before leaving, and Koga hugged Kagura until she couldn't breathe.
"love you, Nee-san, let's see each other again!" He exclaimed, jumping and waving his arm.
"love you too, Koga-chan, and let's definitely see each other again!" Kagura smiled until the hospital doors closed behind him. She was in higher hopes that night. I'm so naming my child Koga.
The rest of the night, Kagura was going around and sitting down with the elderly, adults, children, and even pets. It came to the point of which every visiting family in the small hospital knew her. 'The silly, ebullient girl' they would call her. Everyone would always be in high hopes after speaking with her, and whenever they would thank her, she would say, "Thatnk you too, but this small boy named Koga is the one you should thank."
They snuggled together like a boisterous loud family, and played games and cards. Sometimes even the nurse's and doctors would join in. They all had to leave, however, and Kagura was the only one left. She plopped herself down on the bench, and waited patiently. She was too energetic to be tired, so all she did was hum to the beep, beep, beep.
The doctor came out of the room and pulled down his mask... "Kagura-san, Okita-san is..."To be continued...
