Dan's  POV

*3 weeks later*

These past weeks have had Dan on Cloud 9. He couldn't be more happy than right now with Phil, who was currently at work in a book shop. But Dan was excited, because he knew Phil should be walking through the door in minutes. Dan had tidied up, showered, gotten dressed, and watched one episode of the show How I Met Your Mother.

Where is he?  He thought to himself. He looked at the clock, 8:30pm. Crazy enough, he missed Phil. Even if it was only five hours that he was gone. Dan shook his head at his thoughts. He was sure Phil only thought about him now that he was getting a cab back here. Phil basically lived here, he had a whole drawer dedicated to his clothes because he would spend the night. Dan doesn't think Phil's roommate, PJ, doesn't like being home alone all the time now. Although he has his girlfriend, Sophie, who is apparently there all the time.

His phone ringing pulled him out of his thoughts. He saw that his co-worker, and friend, was calling him.

"Hey Connor," Dan said smiling. He got up from the sofa and picked up his mug. Talking to Connor as he made himself some more tea, he didn't notice the door open and close.

Dan laughed at the joke Connor just cracked and bid him his goodbyes. He turned around, and jumped at the sight of Phil, almost spilling the tea in his hand. "Who was that?" Phil asked, scrunching his eyebrows together.

"Connor," Dan said walking up to Phil. He leans in for a kiss, but Phil pulls away. "Phil," Dan said, confused. Why did he pull away? Phil walked a couple of steps, his back turned on Dan. He heard Phil sigh.

Suddenly, Phil whipped around and stalked up to Dan. "What's going on between you two?!" Dan shrunk back, not expecting Phil to ever shout at him.

"What? N-nothing, Phil, I-" Dan stuttered tears trying to fall down his face. Dan blinked. He didn't want to show Phil how upset he was.

"You what?" Phil said bitterly. "You guys are hooking up?" Phil looked angry, his eyes were now a dark blue instead of the bright blue they usually were.  "You have been real buddy buddy with him. I mean, you guys are always together!"

"We work together! Of course we are together everyday, we have the same shift! Why are you blaming me? How do I now you're not banging some dude you work with?"

"Now don't you go blaming this on me, you're the one-" Phil said angrily, backing away from Dan.

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Dan yelled throwing his mug across the kitchen, it smashed against the counter top, tea and glass flying everywhere. He looked back at Phil, breathing heavily, the tears finally falling.  Phil shook his head, walking to the door.

"Where, where are you going?" Dan asked, scared that if Phil walked out that door, he wouldn't come back. Phil didn't say anything, the noise of the slamming door his response. Dan yelled his name angrily. Should he go after him?

Dan walked to the door, his fingers barely touching the door before falling to his side. Then the first sob came, racking his ribs. They kept coming, and Dan slid his back down the door, running his hands through his hair.

He didn't want to lose Phil. He couldn't

Phil's POV

*trigger warning, detailed beating.*

Phil stalked to the elevator of Dan's apartment building. Punching the down button angrily, he blinked back tears. How could he do this to him? He hasn't even looked at another guy in a romantic way. He was so upset, he felt betrayed and humiliated.

Phil walked out of the lobby, into the cool night air. He was so focused on not thinking of the fight with Dan he didn't realize that he was walking to the coffee shop where he met Dan. He plops himself down on one of the black metal chairs outside.

Voices of a man and woman make way to his ears, and Phil decides to try to listen, as a distraction. But then he notices that they are across the street from where he is, and they appear to be fighting.

"Chad, I said we were done, okay? You and I, aren't a thing anymore!" The woman seemed angry, but what Phil saw made jump put of his seat. The man slapped her, hard, and she fell to the ground. Phil suddenly found himself running across the street.

"Hey!" He yelled at the jerk, Chad, and stops a few feet away from him. "Don't her again!" Chad laughed, coming close to Phil, only a mere few inches from his face.

"Or what, pretty boy? You gonna fight me?" Chad was taller than Phil, which is surprising, but Phil didn't back down. His breath reeked of garlic, and his long black hair was greasy.

"Yeah, I will." Phil was not going to back down, the girl didn't deserve this.  Phil looked down at her, she was crying and watching the scene with wide eyes. He tried to tell her with her eyes that she needed to go, and he thinks she got the message. Or she just wanted to leave, and he didn't blame her. She started to stand up and walk away when Chad grabbed her hair and pulled her back. "You ain't goin' nowhere, bitch."

Phil's fist connected with his jaw, and pain seared through his knuckles. How did people actually do this? But before Phil could react, Phil was punched in the nose, and he heard it break. Hot blood poured down his face, and he tried to punch Chad back. Chad was too quick, and punched Phil in his stomach. He doubled over in pain, wheezing. But the blows kept coming. Chad caught his ear, and his eye, and his ribs, and then his stomach again. Phil was on his knees now, gasping. Chad didn't stop, he just kept hitting Phil.

"Please," He begged, "Please s-stop." Chad only laughed. "You should've thought about that before you interrupted me and my girl." He kicked Phil in the ribs, and pushed Phil onto the ground. He spit on his face. Phil was blinking in and out of consciousness. He looked up at Chad, who's face was blurry, and said "Please," before he felt Chad kick him in the ribs one more time. Then he gave in to the darkness, and everything went black.

Dan's POV

Dan got up from the floor and decided to find Phil. He wanted to say sorry, and he wanted to let Phil know how much he meant to him. He would never be able to cheat on him. He grabbed his jacket, and ran to the elevator. He pushed the down button, and waited for it to arrive.

When the doors opened, he pushed past the people getting off while mumbling apologies. Once the elevator opened,he ran out of the doors onto the streets. He kept running, where he didn't know. He looked around while he was running, hoping to spot Phil sitting on a bench of something. He didn't even realize that when he finally stopped for some air, he was at the coffee shop where he worked.

Probably because I walk here all the time, Dan thought. The street was deserted except for the man across the street. Dan heard him shouting, "Are you okay, sir?! Can you hear me?" The man sounded frantic, so Dan decided to go help him. He started jogging toward the now stooping man, he saw a bloodied face. The man on the ground had ebony colored hair, almost like...

No! Dan thought as he ran the rest of the way. Phil was unconscious, his face covered in blood. Dan threw himself on the sidewalk. He grabbed Phil's limp hand and shouted at the man to call 999.

Please, he prayed to whatever superior god was up there, let him be okay.
