I am thin like paper. I have words etched into my arms. By looking into my eyes, you will see a story scrolling by.

I am the faces of many. I am the thoughts, the feelings, the emotions. I am the hero and the villain. I am the brave and the scared.

I am everything and everyone, yet so many believe I am simply nothing.

You can read me, but I am not always so clear to decipher. There are many different versions to me that may unravel from my spine, floating outwards with the wind, as if I am made of nothing.

Be careful when you see me. For I can tell you many things. I can show you many things. I can be many things.

So let me tell you a story.

~~~
If you asked me to tell you about myself, I wouldn't reply. There are many things to a person, and there is only so much that can be said.
It is our flaws that make us human. But when somebody asks us to tell them about ourselves, we leave out the part that makes us human. Instead, we replace it with stories.
Not many of them are true.
Of course, that makes me think. What would make us speak the truth? What would make us share our flaws? Is there a key, a code, a puzzle to solve? Or is it just that one person?
In my stories, there is always that one person. But they are just stories; things I tell you because you are too afraid to know the truth.
Words make you feel things. When a person writes these words down, or says them to you; it makes you realise that you are not alone. That our flaws are shared. This is true, most things are. But it is the way we tell these stories that determines the way we think about life.
Things get twisted. You might tell the story in a different order. You might get the names of the main characters wrong. You might leave out the scary parts.
But, do you see? That is what makes a story, a story. Just like it is what makes a human, a human.
We need the villains for everything to make sense. We need that one person to make us feel better. We need the problem because we are told that there is a solution to everything.
Flaws are flaws. Humans are humans.
It is our flaws that make us human, and only a story can tell you that.
~~~

Like I said, there are many different versions to a story. For example, imagine if the villain was really the hero all along?

What if that character hadn't died? What if that war hadn't been won?

What if that one person took one foot out of the path that was written for them? We would rewrite the story to suit them.

This is how a story is born. There is a set path, but we can only follow it for so long. Once it gets boring, we steer off it and head into the unknown.

All villains were once heroes. And ultimately, it will be the heroes that destroy everything.

~~~
I am the words you read before you go to sleep at night.
I am the words you read when you want to get lost.
I am the words you read when there is nothing left in this world for you.
I am the words. I am.
Look around you, and see that this world is made up of me. Society is built on top of me. Many people abuse me.
I am here to tell a story. I am not here to tell a story that is not true.
They are wrong. Lies hurt the most, especially when they are written down.
This is why I can heal and destroy. This is why I am dangerous.
So, use me wisely. For I am not to be misplaced.
~~~

Whilst I can cause damage, I can also bring great happiness.

I make people take a second look at life. All through a string of letters, a string of words, a string of paragraphs, a string of chapters, a string of books.

I make people rethink; and it is I gift I do not take for granted.

For every story I write, there is another life to be saved. I exist because I give someone the chance to rewrite their own story; to start again, to leave the past behind them.

I am a new beginning.

I am words.

~~~
What I do is simple. I simply use a combination of 26 different letters. And with these, I can make people laugh, cry, scream, cheer. I can make people believe what they never thought to be true.
My job is so simple. Yet there is always the chance that out of the thousands of books I end up becoming, there will always be that one book that can save.
~~~

I am the ink. The pages. The smell. The emotions.

I am the plot twist. The cliffhanger. The turn. The happy ending.

I am the book and I have only one job.

To make you think.
