I trapped a spider under a church mug once.
You know, the ones they give you for free if you sign up for their monthly emails.
I wasn't sure if the little guy was skinny enough to crawl through the evidently non-existent crack
between the mug's edge and the surface of my desk.
I mean, it was jumping when I trapped it.
So I stacked the box of AP U.S. History flash cards
on top of that blue-glazed mug.And then my Bible on top of that,
just in case.I remembered this incident,
And I tried to think up some deeper meaning for it.
Like a lesson, perhaps?Some symbolism?
And truth is, I could try.
Fabricate.
Say,
that the spider represents
your feelings,
your thoughts,
your true self.And the mug,
your own suppression,
society,
your own need to feel like you have it all together. And it's trapped, suffocating.
You're afraid to let it out...
...
I could go on and make up
A bunch of
Beautiful
Bullshit. But that's all it would be.
Not everything needs
a deeper life meaning,
To symbolize something,
Or to be a God-given sign.
Some things
Just simply are.Things better left
Un-overthought.
