twelve. [what we weren't]

How would you explain me

To your next girlfriend?

What we were,
The things we did.

How we changed,
The thing we turned into.

And finally,
The way that we broke.

Piece by piece

Into a million fragments

of the lies that we told.

And eventually,
That we came
to believe.

So is that all we were to you?
Merely a thing?
Not worth putting into
Real words.
Not enough to be anything more
Than a vague indication of something
That was more than nothing.

But certainly not
Anything along the lines of

An item that mattered to you;

a relationship?

And when I come to think of it,

I think I agree.
Because a relationship would require
Two people.

And the only person that you ever saw,

Or even cared about

Was yourself.
