Dr. Hobkin sighed at all the badly injured soldiers in beds that seemed to be better off dead. Never had he seen such catastrophe. All the soldiers were already at death's door, and seemed to have no other existence than to feel pain and agony. Some had no skin and just had plastic wrap over their meat and bones in a failed attempt to keep their parts together. Others were so wrapped in gauze that you couldn't tell if it was a person or a mummy. If he didn't know any better, it would have seemed like he stepped into a museum rather than medical facility.

"So, can you heal them?" a voice next to him asked, deep and booming.

Hobkin pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head. "No...I can't. These soldiers are already practically dead, and there is nothing I can do to take that from them. Efforts are properly better suited somewhere rather than here where the survival rate is less than one."

Immediately, a hand came out from the shadows and grabbed a chunk of Hobkin's shirt. Hobkin winced at the force, expecting to be hit as well. When nothing happened, he began to relax if only a little.

"Now listen here, you worthless piece of crap. Out of all the doctors, you have never once saved a life once, and I am getting sick of this bull crap." The hand let go of him only to then pushed him back. "And if you as so much think that you can't bring these soldiers up-to-date then I'll make sure you join them."

A boy soon came in who seemed no older than ten. He had ashy, gray hair with large matching eyes. He stared at the doctor, immediately showing blood-lust in his eyes. But that's not the thing that intrigued Hobkin to the boy, but the fact the two big cat ears were twitching on the sides of his head along with a self-moving tail on his lower back.

"Amazing." Hobkin muttered under his breath. Then the doctor looked up at the threatening man. "Can I ask question?"

"If it is about the boy, I'm not answering anything."

Hobkin shook his head and sighed. "What happened to these men?" Hobkin asked, a little afraid of what the answer might be. Anything that caused this much destruction was something beyond his comprehension of power. It was like the men were dragged through every war known to man then beaten up some more for good measure.

"They were attacked by a powerful Experiment. I shouldn't have taken the person so seriously, but my greed and power-lust got in the way. Now these men and I paid the price." The man said while his fingers gingerly grazed his own stomach.

"And the boy is?"

The man looked down at Hobkin with a pair of eyes that seemed to hold no emotion. He held no remorse for his sins nor of the consequences. Sure, he said he was regretting his choices, but the only regret he had was doing too little. Of course, he couldn't let this doctor know. He wouldn't understand. He wouldn't understand the power of a father's love.

"He was my son."

It had been a couple of weeks since Viktor had been staying with Kenny, and so far, it was going better than the two could have hoped for. Viktor, in his own strange way, cleaned and cooked and Kenny just had to laugh while he taught him the correct way on doing things.

"No, Viktor. You don't mix the eggshells with the egg when you cook."

"No, Viktor. You don't put bleach in with the colors."

"Viktor! Stray cats aren't a part of grocery shopping!"

It had been a couple of stressful days, but Kenny was getting used to Viktor's antics and as they continued to live together, Viktor was getting used to living more independently. He soon didn't need help on how to button a shirt or tie his shoelaces. He was able to properly wash dishes without breaking them, and even make toast without burning it. He was even doing better at the coffee shop and was now a productive member of the work force.
