Ryan's POV
I reached home with Zangoose and walked inside. I kept smiling, despite the fact that my mom had just died. I felt horrible for smiling after what I had just seen, but remembering my mother's words filled me with the determination I needed to keep smiling. I sat on the couch.
"Zangoose?" I called. "Abigail," She replied. "What?"
"That's my name. Abigail." "Oh..." I said. I didn't know how I was still smiling. Abigail snuggled up next to me with tears in her eyes. "You aren't sad?" She asked. "Of course I am. But don't you remember what Mom said a long time ago?"
Time skip to bed time
Abigail and I walked up the stairs and climbed into bed. Abigail, like normal, wrapped her arms around me and drifted to sleep. I tried to get to sleep, but the thought of my mom dying and my dad in prison kept haunting me. A whimper escaped my lips without notice, and woke Abigail up. "Ryan, are you okay?" She asked. "Huh?" I began. "Oh, yeah. I-I'm fine."
