In no time at all, we were flying over France. I peered out the window and Alliyah did the same.
She shrieked. "Oh my gosh! Look at the Eiffel Tower!"
We already saw it from afar, it's magnificent structure was breathtaking.
"It's amazing," was all I could say. I now felt the same great wave of awe the first time I saw it when I was fifteen.
We continued watching as we passed over colorful houses then the Arch de Triomphe that was just a small distance from the tower, I realized. Alliyah gasped and shrieked in utter excitement.
Then the airplane began to descend into a track surrounded by clear, plain land with neatly trimmed bermuda grass. We landed at the port on 3:00 p.m.
We patiently flooded out of the plane with the rest of the passengers.
After retrieving our bags, we then looked for my relatives who might be at the waiting area along with the rest of the people who were here to get their relatives or friends.
My uncle and aunt Fontanny lived by the beautiful countryside of France. The time my parents took me to visit them, I was just a teenager and had found my first love there. He was the one who took away my virginity in a barn one night, with the full moon as our only spectator. Funny when I think about him-- how easily I fell for his charms when he just worked at a farm-- I wonder how he is now.
Earlier this week, I had called up my uncle and aunt to inform them that I would be coming back to France and if it was okay that Alliyah and I would stay at their house for a while. They were very happy about it and told me we could stay for as long as we liked because they missed me a lot.
"Alliyah, I don't see them anywhere!" I whined to my bestfriend beside me who was also scanning the crowd of people, to see anyone that was holding a placard with my name on it or anyone who looked similar to me.
"Maybe they're running late." She reasoned.
"Oh no, French are very particular with time." I told her. "Come on, they might be waiting outside." I held her wrist and led her away from the confusing lot of faces.
We made it through the other tourists, chattering in Fench with their friends or relatives who were here to get them. We searched all the possible spots where my relatives could be waiting at but we never found them.
It was almost 4:00 and I was about to give up and just take the tourists' bus with ny bestfriend to the cheapest hotel but then someone tapped me on the shoulder.
"(french for 'My goodness'), Persephia!" I quickly turned around and saw a small middle-aged woman with shoulder-length orange hair, that was curled at the bottom and was faded by gray strands--- almost looking like one of those 80's hairstyles. But despite her dramatic Marilyn Monroe hair, she had a cute pinkish face, creased with wrinkles. And green eyes that seemed to own centuries of knowledge. She was wearing a tight-fitting grayish-blue dress with long sleeves. Her body was petite and still clearly appealing despite her weight-gain.
"Aunt Clarisse!" I gasped in relief and wrapped her in a tight hug. She pushed me away after a moment to take a breath, then held me by the arms with both hands.
"We've been searching you for almost an hour now, Sephia! We were about to give up but then Maddy spotted that silly-looking girl," she pointed to Alliyah and Alliyah interjected a "Hey!" but Aunt Clarrisse continued, "with you and realized who her companion was--- it was you, my wonderful niece!" She chuckled in delight at the sight of me then added, "oh how gorgeous you've become!" Her voice was raspy and worn out, but it was distinctively baring a French accent. She drew me in for a more formal hug, afterward she kissed both sides of my cheek.
