It was the early morning. The sun was only just beginning to rise over the land. Due to the time, the scene was still quite dim and there was barely a person in sight.
A young man sat on the roof of a local shop in the village, staring outwards at the sky. A soft breeze blew his hood down, however he was wise enough to quickly put it back on.
After all, he was being chased.
"There!" His eyes widened as he noticed several soldiers glaring up at him, aiming their muskets quickly.
"Ah," He stood up slowly, grabbing his 'wand'. "Pardon me, gentlemen, but I do need to be heading off." He let out a small squeal as he dodged a bullet and frowned as he dashed across the roof. "That...was not nice." The hooded figure leapt with ease onto another building, only to be met by one of the soldiers, ready to kill him then and there.
Without thinking, he outstretched his 'wand', only to have it shoved out of his hand and a dagger met with his throat.
"Ah, you got me..." The criminal raised both hands in the air and smirked as the soldier let down his guard. Hurriedly, he cast his arm out towards his enemy and muttered a spell, sending the older man downwards. "Oh~" The young man sat back down on the roof, not daring to look down. He heard horrified cries as the other soldiers ran over to see what had happened.
"Dear God, he's dead!"
"Can't be... Send him back to the palace immediately! Everyone go, go!" As the chattering slowly faded, the young mage gave out a sigh.
"Really, Francis?" He jumped as he heard a voice and grinned.
"What was it they called me again, Antonio? A pest?"
"Little mischief," One of Francis' only friends, Antonio, appeared next to him, his hands on his hips. "Can't you go just one day without killing anyone?"
"Hey, I try," Francis let out a sigh, stretching out his arms. "I may be skilled, but I still can't quite control it..." He grinned. "Toni." The Spaniard grimaced as he was given the nickname his partner often called him by, however he quickly brushed it off.
"So, you struggle to not kill people?"
"Yes,"
"Huh," The two stayed on the roof, staring at the sky in silence. A few maids could be seen going out to collect in washing or prepare for the day ahead. "I'll be off, then. I don't really like the idea of being arrested. You-know-who would kill me." Antonio looked down at Francis as he stretched his arms. He barely took any notice and continued to stare at the scene in front of him. "Fra--"
"Yeah, yeah, I heard you," The man sighed, getting up slowly.
"Alright... Adiós, Fra--"
"Don't say my name," The Frenchman's voice lowered suddenly as he put his hands in his pockets and pulled his hood back up. He glowered. "You don't know who's around, Antonio. I can say your name all I want- you're not wanted. Sure, you've done a few crimes in your time, but no one's hunting for you."
"Right..." Antonio looked back at his friend once more before turning away, however, he continued to speak. "You can change, my friend. You still have years to change your ways. You are rich, after all. You could still, if you beg enough, get your inheritance from your father-"
"I'm never going back to that man, Antonio- especially not to beg. I'm moving on." Francis took his hands out of his pockets, ready to perform a spell. "I wish you could understand why." The Spaniard frowned.
"So do I, my friend."
