I have no clue if anyone is reading this, but I'm going to be taking this story very slowly. I'm trying my hardest to not make this like every other fan fiction so please, feedback would be great!!!

Charlotte smiled as she looked into the brown eyes of the person who stopped her swinging.

"Neville! What are you doing here?" She asked as she jumped up and gave the lanky boy a hug. When she pulled back, she saw that a crooked smile was on his face.

"I wasn't going to miss my best friend's birthday. Besides, you do live just up the hill from me." He explained and Charlotte remembered that Augustus had moved to a smaller house down the hill, she thought it was about time that Neville was around more kids his age.

Neville and Charlotte became friends through their mutual dislike of Gilderoy Lockhart. Even though Charlotte was two years above him, Neville managed to be put in O.W.L Herbology that year. She was complaining about Lockhart's incompetence when Neville bursted out laughing. Charlotte's classmates gave him nothing but glares when she went over to help him up (he had knocked himself over onto the hard ground). When she had outstretched her hand, Neville didn't hesitate to take it.
She decided to sit with him the rest of the class. She since then discovered that he was one of the few people in the school who treated her like a normal person and not like all of her fellow Slytherins.

"You could've just owled me. I don't want to inconvenience you." She said as she sat back down. Neville's eyes saddened as he looked at her.

"You could never inconvenience me, Lotty. Besides, if I owled you I would've missed our on hearing you sing." He laughed once he saw the look of pure terror on her face.

"Y-yo-you heard that?" She stuttered as her face heated up with embarrassment. She absolutely hated singing in front of people, it scared the living daylights out of her. Neville nodded and she buried her face in her hands. What a great way to start her birthday.

"I also have something for you.......I wanted to see your reaction." He said so quietly she almost didn't hear him. She looked up at him and smiled when she saw the box in his outstretched hands. It was wrapped very poorly in what seemed to be a paper bag, but she didn't care. She took the box from him and inhaled before ripping open the packaging. The box was light and Charlotte was shaking as she lifted the lid.

"Oh, Neville. It-it's so beautiful!" She said in a sigh. She held up the silver chain to examine the stone at the center. The lapis lazuli was shaped into an oval and was surrounded by very small emeralds. She attempted to put it on but was unable to get the clasp open.

"Let me help you." Neville said as she turned around, her back facing him. He fastened the clasp with ease and tapped Charlotte on the shoulder letting her know he was done.

"Thank you, so much. I'll never take it off." She said as she kissed his cheek. He chuckled at her enthusiasm.

"Great job, Lotty. Now I have Slytherin cooties." He said as he wiped his cheek off. "Isn't that his owl?" He asked as he pointed to the sky. Charlotte looked and saw the familiar white figure fly towards them.

"Hey, Hedwig." Neville greeted the owl as Charlotte untied the bundle from her leg. When she had finished, she gave Hedwig an owl treat before she flew away.

"I'll talk to you later, Lotty. Enjoy your letter." Neville hugged her and then made his way down the hill. He knew that Charlotte always liked to have privacy when she read her mail.
