"Wake up, Char!"
"Charlotte......."
"Charlotte Marie Lovegood! If you don't get your fat arse up this instant, I will unleash hell on you!"
Charlotte groaned as she sat up. After stretching her arms, she looked around and found the culprit of her unfriendly wake up call.
"I swear, Bethany, if you do that one more time......." She said as she got out of her four poster bed. The brunette rolled her brown eyes as she sat herself down on Charlotte's empty bed.
"Oh, I'm so scared!" She said as she placed her hands on both sides of her face, mock fear apparent. Charlotte shook her head at her friend and headed to the bathroom, her uniform in hand. Even though she hadn't seen her all summer, Bethany was exactly the same as when the school year ended. Charlotte wouldn't have had it any other way.
They had been friends ever since they had fought over who got the softest bed in their first year, but they weren't as close as her and Neville. There was something about that boy that made her feel nothing but comfort.
She shook her head to clear her mind as she tied her green and silver tie. She quickly threw on some make-up before throwing her red hair into a messy bun. She looked at her watch and swore, she was running five minutes later than usual. She slipped her black combat boots on and grabbed her green bag before running to the deserted common room.
She couldn't believe that Bethany didn't warn her before she left. She pushed the thought out of her mind and ran as fast as she could to the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. She swung the door open and stopped as soon as she stepped inside. Naturally, the entire room was staring at her but she didn't care about that as she looked at the Professor.
"Ms. Lovegood, I presume?" Moody asked, both his normal and magical eye were on her. She nodded as she clutched her side, her breathing still rapid.
"Well then, as you're fifteen minutes late, I have every right to give you detention. However, I would be willing to make an exception if you answer one question for me." Moody said, his grisly voice piked her interest.
"I'll try my best, Professor." She said, her eyes showing determination. She had never had a detention before and wasn't going to start now.
"What spell is used to ward off Dementors?" He asked and Charlotte had to restrain herself from rolling her eyes. She dated Harry, the boy who preformed the spell just last year. That and they were sixth years, of course she knew the answer.
"Expecto Patronum, Professor." She said as confidence dripped off of her voice. She heard snickering throughout the classroom as Moody spoke.
"Good, now let's see you produce one." He said and she looked at him. She had never produced the spell before and now he wanted her to do it in front of her peers. She sighed, knowing that she had no choice.
She closed her eyes and thought of the happiest memory she could think of. Her mother and her were baking, without magic, music was filling the kitchen as a six year old Charlotte threw flour into her mother's hair. She smiled before saying the incantation.
"Expecto Patronum." She said and she opened her eyes. The silvery substance flew out of her wand and formed itself into fox. The creature looked at her before it circled the classroom, disappearing once it had reached her.
All eyes were on her as she turned her attention to the Professor. A small smile spread across his face but quickly disappeared before anyone else could see it.
"Well done, Ms. Lovegood. You got out of detention this time." She sighed and moved to sit next to Bethany, who was staring at her.
"However, you do still get to be punished. For the rest of this year, you will sit in between Mr. and Mr. Weasley." Charlotte stopped and saw that amusement was on the man's face. She then turned to look at her new seating arrangement. Fred and George Weasley for once did not have smiles on their faces, but looks of pure terror.
Charlotte couldn't tell if it was because they wouldn't be sitting together or if it was because a Slytherin would be in-between them. One of them moved over, allowing there to be a seat. She lowered her head in defeat as she walked to the back of the class and forced herself in the empty seat between the twins.
"I'd rather have detention." She whispered as she sat down. All eyes returned to the front of the class as Moody continued his lecture on Inferi. She folded her arms and laid her head on top of them, trying to focus.
"Impressive Patronus, that was." A whisper came from her right, but she ignored it. She didn't want to get into more trouble, she just nodded.
"Fred, I don't think she likes us very much." The one on her left said and she rolled her eyes, not taking her attention off of the Professor.
The boys gave up talking for the rest of the class, and she was relieved but slightly worried. Everyone knew that the Weasley twins were always planning a prank. Once the bell rang to signal the end of class, Charlotte stood up and was about to walk out the door when she tripped. She landed onto the cold stone floor, her chest sore from the landing. She then rolled over and looked at her feet, her shoe laces were tied together.
"Very original." She said to the nearest twin who had a smile plastered across his face. Her other classmates walked by her, laughing on their way out the door. Bethany smiled at her before glaring at the twins. She was about to come over when Charlotte shook her head.
"She speaks!" The boy said, still looking down at her as she untied her laces. His brown eyes were sparkling with humor and she glared at him.
"You did this because I wouldn't talk to you?" She asked, frustration in her voice and he took a step back as she stood up.
"Maybe. Us Weasleys don't like being ignored. Especially George and I." He said and she shook her head at him.
"Well, try introducing yourself and then you might get an answer, Fred." She said as she walked out the door. She had a free period next and decided to head to the Great Hall as she didn't eat breakfast yet. Her plans for peace and quiet went out the window when she realized that Fred Weasley was following her.
