I got home late that night, the house was still and dark. They were both probably in bed I was guessing, I crept upstairs, hoping not to make any noise, and got into bed.
My alarm clock sounded and I opened one I blearily, the sun shone through the window and I pulled myself out of bed. I slipped on grey skinny jeans, tan boots, and a flowy lavender shirt. I pinned back one of my my curly blonde locks so my hair was still down, but out of my face. I thumped down the stairs to see an angry Zach at the kitchen table.
"Where did you go last night? And why didn't you answer my call?" His voice was shrill and accusing, I shrunk back a little.
"I just went to the park, I needed to get my mind off things, Zach, you saw how mad I was," I tried keeping my voice calm and steady, but my words kept trembling.
"So you abandon me with our psychotic Mother?" He was raising his voice, my hands were shaking as he ran his hands through his own tuft of curly blonde hair.
"W-where is Mom?" I asked, scared. He shook his head,
"She took a glass bottle and broke it off her head, I had to call Sarah and have her pick us up and take Mom to the hospital since you took the car, you know how embarrassing that was?" Sarah was Zach's girlfriend of a couple of months, I had met her only once, she obviously hadn't known how unstable our mom was. I swallowed and nodded my head.
"I needed you, Blaire, the one time I needed you most and you abandoned me, this'll take me a while to forgive you for." He said, gritted his teeth, my eyes welled up.
"No Zach please, you're...you're all I have." I choked, Zach was the only family I really had, since Dad left a while ago, Mom cut us off from all relatives, and she didn't have any friends. Zach stared at me for a while, and glanced out the window, a shiny red car pulled into our driveway, without saying a word, Zach put his coat on, and left in the red car. Looks like I wont have my usual company coming to school today.
"Come on Blaire, you can do better," my science teacher mumbled as she put my test down face first on my desk. I nervously lifted a corner, just enough to see the bright red D stamped across. I sighed, science was never my strong point, I could just never remember all the long names of bacteria and such. I slumped down my seat and tried to get my mind off of it. The bell rang and I quickly grabbed my books, and ran out of the classroom.
"Blaire, wait up!" I heard a voice call, I turned around to see Theo, smiling at me. He caught up to me and put his hands on my waist.
"You okay? I haven't seen you at all this morning, and it's almost lunchtime," he asked, concern in his eyes, I nodded my head.
"Yeah, I'm fi-"
"Are you guys dating? You're such a cute couple!" I was cut off by one of the yearbook staff, snapping a picture of the close position we were in.
"Um, no we're not together." I said nervously and coughed, Theo smirked and shook his head, the girl didn't seem to hear me as she scurried off, looking at her camera. The bell rang and I broke apart from Theo;
"I'll see you at lunch," I mumbled and went to my next class. I could hardly focus on my work, Zach's angry face kept popping into my head, I put my head down on my desk and tried to keep the tears from spilling over.
"Hey, what's wrong? You looked like you were going to die in class," Angel said to me as we were walking to lunch.
"I have a headache," was all I said, Angel shrugged and rambled on about her English project. I heard laughter, Theo's laughter, I looked around to see him and Delany. He picked her up from behind and spun her around as though it was a romance movie, they were acting like a couple. Jealousy tugged at my heart as my eyes welled up for the third time today. He pulled her close and whispered something in her ear like he did so many times to me. I swallowed the lump in my throat, he is a player. He completely lied to me, he's a huge player, a player I was done with.
