Chapter 21:

Skylar’s POV

“Skylar, hurry up and get down here, they’re going to be here any minute!” my mom called up the stairs, stress laced in her voice. I looked at myself in the mirror, and saw that I actually looked cute today. I didn’t want to dress up too much, since it is a barbeque, and who knows what we’ll be doing, so I decided on something simple yet not sloppy. I curled my hair, and put it in a side pony tail, with a strand hanging loosely on the other side, adding a little bounce to match my mood. The shirt I’m wearing is a sleeveless tank top that buttoned up to just below my cleavage. Then, not wanting to show off too much skin, I wore a royal blue spaghetti strap tank top underneath, with a diamond heart necklace that I got for my sixteenth birthday. Then for pants I wore my dark washed flare jeans, along with black converse.

Running down the stairs, I found Chase and my dad hurrying out the back door, carrying the hamburgers and hot dogs that will be grilled for today’s lunch. From the kitchen I could hear my mom scurrying around, looking for this or that, causing dishes and pans to collide with one another and my sister in law, Holly, trying her hardest to calm my mom down. I looked at the couch and saw that the book I was reading last night was left unattended, and I knew that it’d be best if I just stayed out of everyone’s way, so I grabbed the book, went outside on the porch, and sat in a comfortable position on the porch swing; waiting for the arrival of my boyfriend and his family, my friends and they’re family.

I had just gotten to the part where Harry dreamt about Arthur Weasly getting attacked by a snake, when I heard the sound of a car coming up our dirt driveway. I looked up, and that’s when I saw the Taylor’s park their car in the grass area that we decided would be the parking spot whenever we have guests over. The first one out of the car was Daniel, and thankfully he took his sweet time coming toward me, because it gave me enough time to check him out. What, I have a right; he is after all my boyfriend. So, don’t judge.

He was wearing a plaid button down royal blue shirt, with dark jeans, and a darkish blue leather jacket. He had on that smile that seems to be plastered on his face since the first day I saw him at my brother’s wedding. He came up on the steps, and although I could tell he wanted to kiss me by the way his eyes quickly glanced at my lips, I was grateful that he didn’t; instead he settled for kissing me on the cheek, which still left my heart racing.

Coming to my side, he wrapped his arm around my waist, and began the introduction of his family. “Skylar, this is my mom and dad,” he said, gesturing to his parents. I shook their hands, and smiled politely at them. His mom was a short 5’ 3” middle aged woman, with short chestnut brown hair, and a very kind welcoming smile; just like her sons. His dad, he was a tall 6’ 0” dark haired man, whose hair was beginning to diminish, with bushy eyebrows, and a little on the heavy side, but still looks like he can do hard labor.

“And this is my pesky older sister, Alex,” Daniel concluded, turning my attention to a short, 5’ 2” brunette girl, with smile like her father’s. It’s obvious that Daniel looks more like their mother, and Alex looks more like their dad.

“Oh I’m so glad to have finally met you,” Alex cried, ignoring my extended hand, and pulling me into a tight embrace. “I didn’t make it to your brother’s wedding since I was away at college. But when I came home, and Daniel told me he had met a girl, and he gushed about how beautiful she was, he wasn’t exaggerating.”
