Chapter 13:

“Ugh this is hopeless!” I cried in frustration as I threw the last of my clothes on my bed. Giving a frustrated stomp, I turned around to see my two best friends giving me completely opposite looks. Heather is giving me an ‘oh brother it’s no big deal’ look. Whereas Beth is giving me everything will be fine, we just need to think look.

“Come on my date is in less than three hours, what am I supposed to do?”

Beth got up from her position on my bed, and began digging through the pile of clothes that lay scattered around on my floor. I watched as she began to mix and match different items of clothing, lifting up a shirt, and then some kind of pants, but then tossing the shirt. Between the three of us, Beth definitely has the best taste in clothes, she’s always knows what the latest fashion is, and she knows how to find cute clothes on sale. I’m more of a wear t-shirts and jeans kind of girl, only really caring about my hair. Whereas Heather is more: I’ll wear whatever makes me comfortable, and I don’t care if they match or not, kind of girl.

“Okay,” Beth said, after going through every item that I own. In her hands held two outfits. “Now here are your options. You either wear this shirt with this skirt, or you wear this dress. You chose.”

I examined each outfit carefully. The dress looked more my style, and matched with my eyes. I do like the design on the bottom, a heart with a peace sign in it; with little cross things around it. It looked more causal, but yet would be perfect for a first date.

However, the other outfit is adorable and something that I wouldn’t mind wearing. The shirt is lavender purple, with a scoop neck that hung loosely. While underneath, just peeking out slightly, was a lace lavender tank top. The skirt matched perfect with it, light lavender flowers designed on it, with black petals and a light lime green as the shading on the petals. And surrounding the flowers, in a very faint peach color, are more flowers of the same kind; contrasting with the lavender perfectly.

“Okay,” I declared. “I decided to wear the skirt and the lavender blouse.” Beth smiled at me in satisfaction. “Now, that we have the outfit down, what should we do about makeup and hair?”

I heard Heather grown behind me. “It’s just a date. The guy should like you for who you are on the inside, not the outside. If it were me going on a first date, then I’d just wear jeans and a nice shirt, with my leather jacket; and leave my hair the way it is.”

“Well, you don’t have to go on a first date, since you already have a boyfriend. Besides I’m not you, I would like to at least look nice for the guy I’m going to go out with.” For the past two days Heather and I have been on the outs, hardly agreeing on things that normally wouldn’t be such a big deal, but is to us.

I can’t help but think that part of it is because since Sunday, when my family and I talked about Jesus and stuff like that, and I started talking to her about becoming a Christian; she’s been, annoyed. But another part is because I’m getting tired of her complaining about how hard it is to decide on which college she should go to. I know she’s technically not bragging or trying to, but for the past two days, she hasn’t even asked me how I’ve been. I mean I take the time to ask her how she is, and see what’s been going on in her life, but does she return the favor? No. it’s like I’m the one who has to work at the relationship, and keep us together, it’s been like that since high school.
