2. Christopher
Tessa's POV
I hear the last bell of the day ring and smile to myself as I quickly pack my things. I am excited and unusually hyper for someone who didn't get much sleep the night before, an hour or two if that... Especially for someone who is leaving school and going straight to work.
"I'm glad this is finally over, time to get to work!" I say to nobody in particular, as I begin racing to my car to get out of this hellhole we call a school.
As I start my car, I turn on the stereo like always and begin to drive. Not even a minute has passed before my mind goes back to that mysterious call from that strange job of mine. I have to admit I thought this job would be a lot more stressful but so far so good. The hardest phone call was James (obviously) but... I don't know something about him makes me curious, who is he? Why does he want to kill himself? I did some research last night, which shouldn't help but I'm not sure it will but I don't want the only thing it did help accomplish to be making me lose a night worth of sleep...
Before I know it I'm already parking near my office, hurrying inside since it started raining. "With my bad luck, of course, it had to start raining!" Despite the rain, that was a nice, yet short drive. I never realised how little time it took to get here. I walk to the elevator which is surprisingly close to the entrance and reach out to click on its button. Before I have a chance to do so, it opens its doors and reveals a smiling Chris.
He was wearing a fitted black suit, paired with a clean white shirt. He looks extremely handsome in it, the black makes his hair and eye colour pop out, making his eyes appear even more piercing as if they could show you the world just by looking at them. His tie was the most untidy part of the outfit, I'm guessing he untied it on his way down. Not that would know but having a piece of fabric choking you all day long must not be a pleasant feeling.
"Talking to yourself, are we?" He asks playfully.
"Hey Chris, how are you?" I ask whilst s Are you already done for the day or heading to court?" He works at the lawyer firm a few floors above my office; he is a really nice and very handsome man. He's the kind of man, a blue-eyed blonde may I add, that girls throw themselves at for a minute of attention. After a drink one night, I got the truth out of him, he is single and only 23 years old, pretty young especially for someone working at his firm, it has a very good reputation for dealing with difficult cases. So he's probably really good at his job!
"Home actually, I need to work my defence. Are you heading up, Tessa? Hop in, I'll take you upstairs."
I give him a genuine smile and thank him while I step into the elevator. It was a really sweet gesture. Whoever said chivalry is dead certainly didn't know Christopher!
During our way up, comfortable silence sets and soon the elevator stops, it has already reached my floor and surprisingly we both step out. I didn't actually think he would take the all the way to my office... He just follows me there without saying another word and as soon as we reach the door he leans down and pecks my right cheek and smiles afterwards.
"Well I'll see you tomorrow Tessa, have a nice day. Oh! And uhm... Don't forget," he starts saying while scratching the back of his neck, looking oddly nervous. "If one of those strange calls you get makes you sad or something I can always call me." He finishes by winking at me, leaving me to doubt if there was more flirting than being friendliness in that sentence.
I follow him with my eyes while he walks back and, as reaches the elevator we had just used, I remember something, I DON'T HAVE his phone number!
"CHRIS! Hold on," I yell whilst racing back to him, thanking God that I had my Vans on instead of some heels. "I don't have your phone number. You never know, maybe one day I will take you up on that offer." He smiles back at me and grabs the phone from my hands, quickly typing his number. a few seconds after until I hear 'Wrapped Up' by Olly Murs. He had just called his own number so he had mine too.
"Now I have ours too, maybe one day one of these cases will get the best of me and I will end up needing someone to talk to."
We are both smiling and as he turns around to click the elevator button, I gently get on my toes, put my hand on his shoulder so I don't lose balance and feel his palm on my lower back. Then I pull his face closer with my other hand and hold his jaw in the perfect angle for me to kiss his cheek as he kissed mine not 1 minute ago.
A N
I'm sorry this chapter is so short but it was (originally) 1.100 words long but I decided to split it into 2 because I wanted to make the 2nd half of it, the one you will be reading on chapter 3, longer and more interesting.
What are your thoughts on Chris?
