Her eyes fluttered and I could see fear in her eyes. Her eyes are hazel brown and she looks like she grew from the pictures. I stepped forward but she stepped back with a silent whimper. "Its OK, I won't hurt you, I'm just a girl." I said. I looked at my hands and shook my head.

I'm holding a gun, I look like I'm going to hurt her. "Step back, please." She said. I put down the gun and the machete. She watched me and walked back further. I put my hands up and watched her. My eyes panneled to her clothes.

Torn and worn out, and bloody. Its been a month and this girl hasn't changed since. She looked at my bag and her eyes lit up. A pack of beans and water was showing. She licked her lips and stared at it longer.

"Want one, here." I said passing her the bottle and rolling the beans over to her. She bent down hesitantly and took the beans. She took the knife and stabbed open the can, even though there is a can opener on it.

She took her hand and scooped the beans into her mouth, like an animal. She must've not eaten in weeks or months, or showered either. But she can't, no electric. She stopped eating and looked up at me.

I smiled and she smiled back. Seems like she won't talk again unless I gain her trust. She wiped her mouth and put her hand out. Seems like she isn't gonna speak at all. I bent down and put my hand in hers.

She smiled. "Thank you." She said looking away from me. I smiled and was tempted to give her a hug. Looks like I'm not alone anymore, I have a friend possibly.
...
Before we went home, I took her to the river to take a bath. I'm going to have to take care of her, I'm the only person she has. When she took the bath, seemed like she was crying.

But, its risky. She doesn't know the people out here, it's pretty terrible. I walked to the kitchen and started fixing some tomato soup I found. We also went to one house for a scavenge.

I walked over to her and gave her the soup. She took the spoon and began to eat the soup, which was gone in a minute. "How long have you been in this house." She asked looking around in amazement. "Long, a month actually, I'm still looking for my friends." I said.

My heart clenched and I felt a train of hurt run into me. "Oh, I lost mine, saw them die right in front of me." She said a tear rolling down her cheek. I wanted to ask her about her parents, but I can't. She's too damaged, I need to toughen her up.

She can't survive if she cries easily. "Then your with me now, that's how it is going to be, your also gonna have to learn some of my ways." I said. The way I said my ways, make her scared. I can see it in her eyes. "Oh, well OK, but I'm not an animal killer, that's why I'm a vegetarian." She said smiling.

I coughed at the word vegetarian. Just hearing that word makes me wretch. I cannot stand when people say they are vegetarian. So what do they eat, twigs and leaves. "Well, that's a problem, your going to have to eat meat." I said basically not giving a shit.

"OK, what else do I have to adapt to." She said. I took a deep breath and looked around. "Ill teach you how to hunt and set traps, then I'll teach you how to aim, I have another gun anyways." I said pulling it out. She reached towards it in an attempt touch, but I pulled back.

She'll have to earn her right to use a gun. "Not yet, we'll start next week, things have to be done here." I said. She slumped back in the couch and covered her face with the pillow. I walked upstairs and got her some clothes. Skinny jeans, a white tank top and a leather jacket. So, that way we both look badass.

Then I look at her hair. Very long, all the way to her back. "We'll also have to cut your hair." I said pulling out some scissors. There was a long pause and then she replied. "Um, no." She said with a smiled. "Um, yes." I said handing her some clothes.

She looked at the clothes and went in the bathroom to change. One of the Phylum Supras was prickling at the fence. She came out and I smiled at her outfit. "And plus, its the apocalypse and it's my house." I said going upstairs. She laid on the couch and started to go to sleep.

"And nothing, is ever the same." I whispered silently and closing my bedroom door.
