Its been a month since I've seen people. Usually some would pass by, but I hid. The more I go out, the more I feel like I'm getting stronger. So far I've found food and clothes, one house I raided had a few of those things in it. But I handled them, good.
I'm outside and the wind is blowing in my hair. Everday I go out and try to find Hunter and Mary Kate. Sometimes I give up, but I can't not yet. The sun is gleaming on my forehead and sweat is dripping off my head and on my arm.
I wipe off my forhead and set my pack down. Now, I hunt rabbits and squirrels. Sometimes I set up traps and to spare me going out. Rabbit boosts me, it helps me think. And plus extra protien. Squirrels I sometimes like to leave out, gives it a smoky taste.
I look in my pack and take out some water. I take a sip and put it back in my pack. I take water on all my trips. My trips are only when hunting or scavenging. Most of the houses on this block I've scavenged. I don't like to go far, means a long trek back.
I've changed so much since the apocolypse. I've become stronger and gotten used to eating animals. I've been comfortable wearing the same clothing. And I now take showers in rivers by the park.
The park is only a few blocks away from base. I call my house base, now. The rivers are clean, and it helps me concentrate on the thing that matters most, surviving. I put the pack back on my back and continue my trek for hunting.
Today I'm only hunting, and scavenging tomorrow. In the corner of my eye is a rabbit hopping along the bushes. I take out my pistol and aim it at it's stomach. I pull the trigger and it misses by an inch.
The rabbit continues to hop, but faster. I take a berry from a bush and take some sticks and quickly set a trap. I put the berry in the hanging circle and wait behind the bush.
As I wait, time pushes on slowly. It feels like forever as I wait for it to set off. I look behind the bush and there is nothing there. I groan and sit back down. I take out my wooden spear and start sharpening it with my knife.
The trap finally sets and a rabbit is hanging from it. Its legs constantly kicking. I go over to the trap and take it out. I slice it's throat and put it in my plastic bag.
So far I've gotten two squirrel's and one rabbit, that's all I need. I start walking back and hoping not to run into anything. When I hunt, there is usually two to three of those Phylum Supras. Phylum Supras, is what I call those things. Which means immortal and mutants, two things they are.
I open the fence and closed it. I use a bike lock now with a special key. I lock the fence and go into my base. I close the door and go over to the sink. I have no running water, at all, but I have a dispenser.
I guess when this virus broke out, they cut off everything. Including water and electric. I take out the rabbit and squirrels and lay them on the counter. I began to identify the rabbit. Usually there are diffrent types of rabbits.
Brush rabbits, and desert cottontail. This is the first milky doe I've shot. My squirrels are sometimes the same, but today I caught one black squirrel, and one grey squirrel. I take out my knife and begin to cut open the rabbit. I keep the fur for extra warmth on cold nights, not like their aren't any.
I then start taking out the intestine and put it in a bowl. After that I begin to skin it with my hand. I've developed strength, at first I couldn't lift one box for my dad.
I put the fur beside the intestine and start cutting the meat off the rabbit bone. I lick the sweat of my lips and kept cutting it until it came off. After the meat came off, I walked outside and laid it on a log. My yard looks different from what it did, a few months ago.
The fence now is eletric. Just because it's the apocolypse does not mean there are not generators. I got the generator from across town. That was at least a 3 mile trek. I took out my water bottle and began to rinse it to take out all the bacteria and infections it might have.
Then I took a stick and put the meat on it. My dad always kept a fire starter just in case. I used the ash from my previous meal, yesterday and put it on a piece of grass. Then I began to scratch it and it made a spark.
It took a few tries but I finally got it and put it on my firewood. All my firewood I get from shrubs or bushes. It lit up and smoke was emanating from it. I smiled and put the stick on the stone and it begins to cook.
As I sit there my mind does to J.J and Delia. Hopefully they are somewhere out there. Along with Mary Kate and Hunter. They must be out somewhere sleeping. I start to cry but quickly wipe my tears off.
Everyday I try to remember, remember the day when the cars honked and honked, remember the day my family was around me. But I can't remember, if I remember I'll cry. I'm to strong to cry now, I have to stay strong. Even when I know I'm going to die, I keep fighting.
Because whether I like it or not, I'm not gonna get my life back.
