From December 1st to December 7th 1997, the small town of Williker, Colorado was the site of a severe snowstorm. The storm was unexpected as Williker is extremely isolated from satellite observation, and as such the residents of the town were unable to prepare for the onslaught. Heavy snowfall devastated the town's phone lines and power lines, knocking out the power for one hundred and sixty eight hours.

During those seven days of snow-induced darkness, seventeen residents reportedly saw an unknown creature. Many residents reported that the animal passed by house windows though, the intense snowstorm decreased visibility outside to the point that the general outline was discernible. From what can be gathered by witness testimonies, the animal was similar to a deer walking on two legs. It was fifteen feet tall in height and extremely thin. Some residents recalled seeing two black eyes briefly glancing towards the windows before turning back as the animal continued on its way. Light whimpering were also reported coming from the animal compared to a wounded dog. When residents managed to search for the creature after the storm died, large hoofprints were found imprinted into the snow outside, leading from town limits to a hiking trail up a mountain overlooking the town.

The media nicknamed the creature the "White Walker" due to the circumstances surrounding its sightings. Once testimonies reached local police, a hunting party was sent out to locate such an animal, though it was never found. To date, the White Walker has not been seen since.
