when his mother sends him out to retrieve the mail that morning, he nearly tripped over his own two feet at the sight of a letter from his top college. he took careful steps all the way back into his house, deciding it was better to open up the letter on his own first, to see if it was even worth showing his mother or even taehyung. so, he set the stack of mail on the counter, minus his letter, and then went straight to his room. the moment he entered, he closed the door and pulled out his desk chair to take a seat.
one of his hands held the corner of the letter, ready to rip it right open, but something inside of him was not allowing him to. you see, jeon jungkook was a very insecure person. it didnt seem that way, not at all actually, but that was the reality. he feared rejection, he feared disappointing others and he feared that he was just not good enough. the previous rejection letters had hurt his pride, and he was ultimately afraid to open this one. he wondered if he should maybe text taehyung, but decided that he didnt want to bother him with his pathetic worries.
jungkook slowly willed himself to unwrap the letter, reading the letter over carefully before realizing that no, it wasnt another rejection letter. this time, it was an acceptance one. jungkook read over it a good five times before jumping up and out of his seat, immediately jogging out of his room and then out of his house, running straight to taehyungs. when he made it, taehyung opened up the door for him and let him inside, sensing that there was something on jungkooks mind.
they lay together on taehyungs bed, jungkooks head resting on taehyungs lap as they sat in a comfortable silence. "taehyung, you still like me, right? you still want to hold my hand and be around me, right?" jungkook suddenly said, worry evident in the tone of his voice. taehyung nodded quickly, not even bothering to write down the words of course, and just deciding to mouth them out to jungkook. jungkook sighed in relief, lowering his head back into taehyungs lap. he shut his eyes before speaking again, "i got an acceptance letter from college." he muttered casually, still laying on taehyung.
taehyung jumped slightly and jolted jungkook upright, a look of pure excitement on his face. im so proud of you! taehyung scribbled down, showing it to jungkook before hugging him tightly. i knew you could do it! taehyung added to his previous writing, letting jungkook read it over before smiling wider than ever at his favorite boy. taehyung tried not to think about just how far away that would take jungkook from him.
then, the count down began. the moment jungkook wrote down what day his departure would be on his calendar, taehyung counted every second he spent with jungkook. he wanted to make sure that every moment was well spent, that he wasnt wasting all the precious time he had left with him. taehyung made sure to never mention how as each second passes, another crack in his heart forms. jungkook seemed okay for the most part, he never talked about the distance, so taehyung assumed that he didnt think about it either. of course he did, though.
on nights that he couldnt sleep, jungkook scrolled through all the pictures he had taken of taehyung for his project, smiling at each and every one. with each leap in his heart, though, jungkook worried if he was moving too fast. he worried that maybe taehyung didnt feel as strongly as he did, that maybe they werent on the same level of affection. jungkook worried, that maybe taehyung didnt love him too.
