"Okay, how is it going that fast?"Olivia asked,eyes wide.
"Run first, questions later!"Jesse urged the group.
The air smelled too much like smoke.It was smoke.Smoke was it.
The group ran.
Amber was the first to shift to her wolf form,and that wasn't suprising.Sammy was next.
Olivia and Petra didn't want to.
To them,the wolf was an extra part of them that they didn't want.
Jesse didn't look back to see if the fire was gaining,her steps might falter.
The crackling of fire came closer.
Petra was the one that looked back.She was more to the left of the group,and Amber was right in front of her.
Then she grabbed Amber's scruffed and took a while leap to the left.
Crack.
The tree fell.
And seperated Petra and Amber from the rest of the crew.
Petra saving Amber's life. Now I've seen everything. Jesse stared at the tree.Everyone stopped running.That was the last thing Jesse needed.
"Keep going!"Jesse could barely see Petra on the other side of the tree."We can meet up at the end of the tree!"
Smoke was everywhere now.Olivia started coughing.Then Axel.Then Jesse.
The fire had almost caught up to them.
Keep going.
Sammy started coughing.
Just keep going.
Jesse could hear Amber coughing.
Just keep going,almost there.
Petra was coughing.
It's not the fire that kills people,it's the smoke.
They reached the end of the flaming tree.
It was funnt how luck didn't seem to be going Jesse's way today.
It was a ravine.There was a ravine.It was wide and long.Jesse couldn't see the bottom of it.
"We can build over it!"Petra insisted from the other side.
Jesse coughed,then looked at the flames.So close."No.Not enough time.Just run!"
Amber started scampering away,but Petra hesitated.
"Go,Petra!"Jesse yelled.
Petra started running.
"Okay,let's-"Olivia paused."Sammy?"
His wolf body was trembling.He stared at the oncoming flames,eyes wide,tail tucked between his legs.He backed up,towards the ravine.
"Sammy."Jesse called softly."Sammy!"
Sammy wouldn't listen. Couldn't listen.
He backed up more.
And fell.
Over.
The.
Edge.

Amber coughed.Slowed down.
Why can't Petra just shift into her wolf form?She'd be faster,then we could get outta here.
One part of her mind told her to let Petra eat her dust and run as fast as she could.Run until she couldn't.
But Olivia wouldn't like that.
Amber bounded high,and shifted into a human.
"Why can't you just shift?!"Amber asked over her shoulder. "We could get out of here faster!"
"You wouldn't understand!"Petra yelled back.
"Why not?"
"Becuase you wouldn't."Petra scowled at Amber,then her eyes shifted to look at something else. "Hey,watch where you're stepping!"
Amber looked back to where she was running.A tree was aflame in front of her,so she swerved to the right.
Not fast enough.
Some fire caught her left pant leg.
And it burned like heck.
Amber yowled in pain.

It had taken precious seconds for Jesse to get everyone moving after Sammy had fallen.
Trees infront of them were catching fire now.
Jesse closed her eyes.
Don't let anyone else die.I have to make sure nobody else dies.
