CHAPTER 6
-Nate-
I sat alone in the Poseidon table during the dinner time. Sync and the other Athena camper’s ate happily while here I am sitting lonely. But the drinks are crazy, just think of your favorite drink and it will appear in your cup. I wished for a blue soda, and boom, I am enjoying my cold cup of blue soda.
“Hey, you look lonely sitting all alone in that table.” Sync approached me after dinner.
“Yeah. I look lonely, why is it forbidden to sit in other cabin’s table?”
“I dunno. Horse man ordered so. We can’t do anything, Oh wait, remember what Dad said when Mom approached his table and kissed him. That’s so sweet of Mom.”
“Yeah. Stop with your romantic nonsense.”
We made our way to the campfire. Sync sat beside me to compensate for me being alone during dinner. He talked about home, which made the two of us lonelier. I asked the campers what would we do during the campfire. They said that we will just sing along the Apollo kids and just make the campfire burn bright.
“They said that the campfire reflects the mood of the camp. During the loss of Dad, the campfire’s color is always in a dark shade of purple.” Sync said.
“What chemical could have made the fire change its colors?”
“I dunno. But I think it’s some kind of magic. With all of these things happening, everything seems possible.”
“Now that you said that, could we ask some help finding Mom and Dad?”
“Maybe we could ask the Hecate campers, they could do a spell to help find them.”
“Did you just say Hecate campers?” Pan emerged from behind the logs. We were seated on the farthest seat from the fire.
“Yow Pan. I did say Hecate camper. Why?” Sync said.
“Hecate campers are the coolest camper in the camp. But they are also dangerous.” Pan warned.
“Why dangerous? Are they on killing spree this season?” I asked.
“Just don’t mess with them. They could do an enchanting spell that could make you into a tree. You don’t want to be a tree, right?”
“Oh, that’s creepy.” Sync whispered.
“Don’t be a sissy Sync. We’ll be kind and polite so they won’t turn us into trees. Now that’s cool.”
“Everybody, I need your attention. Today is an important day in the history of Camp Half-Blood. The first two eklektos. Eklektos of Poseidon and Athena.” Chiron’s voice boomed. The campers all cheered and the fire turned into full yellow.
“Oh gods of Olympus. That is the most wonderful thing I’ve seen so far.” Sync shrilled. I just sat there slack-jawed.
“That never turned into that color for a while. You guys are real blessing to the camp.” Pan exclaimed.
“Why? Are people here not always happy just like what’s happening now?” I asked.
“Yes. Camper drastically dropped in number these past few years. Maybe many got killed before reaching the camp or the gods don’t chase mortals anymore.” Pan explained.
“What does it have to do with us?” Sync asked.
“We see the arrival of Eklektoi as a good sign. The oracle’s last prediction happened 20 years ago, that’s when your parents left the camp to live in the outside.”
“Why what happened? Did the oracle loose her sense of predicting the future?” Sync asked.
“She said that the spirit seems to be losing her ability to speak oracles. Like someone is blocking her prophecies.”
“Who might want to block prophecies?” I asked.
“I dunno. The Gods? Maybe the Titans. Worse, they could be the Protogenoi.” Pan whispered.
“The Apollo kids are already singing. Don’t talk crap.” A boy beside us said.
“Hi I’m Nate. What’s your name?” I said and gave him my hand.
“I’m Rob. I don’t know my godly parents yet, so I stay in Hermes cabin.” He said and gave his hand to Nate.
“Here’s my twin, Syneto. And Pan.”
“Don’t you ever call me Syneto. Call me Sync.” Sync told me, then to Rob.
“Okay okay. Hey Sync. I’ve known Pan for a long time already.” Rob gave his hand to Sync and shook it, he nodded over to Pan.
“So why are the Apollo kids singing?” I asked.
“Dude, they are the children of the god of music.”
“Ow. Okay. I dunno.”
“That’s why you should have listened to Dad every night instead of snoozing early.” Sync butted in.
“Okay, stop nagging.” I silenced him.
“Prior to the arrival of some special guests, we will be holding a Capture the Flag tomorrow morning. I’ll be announcing the teams tomorrow morning before the game.” Chiron announced after the sing along. All the campers cheered.
“What’s Capture the Flag?” I asked Pan.
“A game between all the campers, where they are divided in two teams. Just get the flag of the opposing team. Chiron will explain it tomorrow. You need to report back to your cabins before the harpies grab you.” Pan said and together with the other campers, left the campfire. Sync and I followed suit
As I was walking Sync to his cabin, since it's nearer the campfire than my cabin, I remembered Mom and Dad. They probably walked the same steps we are walking right now. I wish they are very much alright.
"They're gonna be alright Nate. They became heroes for nothing." Sync said calmly.
"What the?! How did you know what I was thinking?" I asked him.
"Oh that? I don't know either. I just... HOLY ZEUS NATE!" He screamed in, I dunno, terror or excitement.
"Calm down Syneto! What is it?" I asked him while shaking his shoulders violently.
“I guess I just learned how to read minds! NATE I CAN’T BELIEVE IT.” Sync shouted once again.
“I swear I’ll kill you if you raise your voice the next time you talk.” I shushed at him, he’s attracting some attention.
“You can’t believe in what Sync?” Lyssa squealed from behind us.
“Uhm… well. I can’t believe that I am Athena’s eklektos. Can’t you believe it Nate?” He lied. Worst of all, he included me in his very crafty lie.
“I guess so. Well, see you tomorrow Sync. Lyssa, take care of him for me huh. Thanks.” And off I go from the wondering gaze of Lyssa. She’s so nosy. I looked back and saw the two of them happily talking while entering their boring cabin. Well, I think mine’s more boring, at least he’s got some friends over there. I’m lonely.
