LOUIS' POV
"No, no." I looked up at Niall. I should tell him. He's my only friend, and I trust him. Besides, I think it'll feel better if I told him. "I want to tell somebody. And you're my first and only friend. I trust you, so you deserve to know."
Niall looked at me, a bit surprised, and just nodded for me to start. I took a deep breath. Here goes...
"Well, I'm going to tell you about my family, which I also like to call my past life. You see Niall, my Dad's family, they were poor. Really poor. The poorest family in Doncaster. My grandparents were in such a need of money that they offered up their own unborn son to some scientists from America, who were producing hybrids and needed a test subject.
"So, when my Dad was born, he wasn't born with the hybrid traits. Ears, tail, whiskers, nothing. The scientists were disappointed that they failed, gave my family the money and left. When my Dad grew up, he was very intelligent and soon enough, he worked his way our of poverty and now he's one of the most successful bussinessmen in the UK."
"Wow," Niall breathed. "So, your Dad was supposed to be a hybrid, but then...?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm getting there."
"So, who is your Dad?"
"Troy Austin," I muttered. Niall gasped.
"THE Troy Austin?!"
"The only one." Niall noticed my sour expression and mumbled a sorry.
"It's okay. I'm not on friendly terms with my father, or the rest of my family for that matter." Niall looked like he wanted to ask why, but stopped himself.
"So," I continued. "My Dad met my Mum, they married, then divorced. Mum remarried, then divorced again, married my Dad again and then they had my two older sisters and me. My parents were a bit scared of having kids, cos ya know. There was a chance that Dad had some hybrid genes in him. And then my first sister was born, she was normal. And then my second sister was okay too."
I took a deep breath, and closed my eyes. I felt Niall take my hand in his and squeeze it comfortingly. "Then I was born, their first son. And I was the only one who had inherited my Dad's hybrid gene. And I was the freak of the family. I was never allowed to meet anyone, make friends, go outside. So as to not risk my family's reputation. I was caged up in my room my whole life. I never had any friends," I sobbed.
"B-but when I turned 18, I had it. I talked to my father, and we came to an agreement. I could be free and leave this house, leave London, only if I could erase myself. Erase my identity. And it could work easily as not many people knew that Troy Austin even had a son," I mumbled bitterly.
"Then?" Niall urged softly.
"Then? Well, then I agreed to the deal. When I finished my education, I got a new identity. I adopted my step-father's last name, Tomlinson. And came to live at the place farthest away from London; here. And I'm so glad I did," I finished, squeezing Niall's hand.
Niall smiled, and wiped my tears. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I wish-"
"It's okay now. I have a new life now. I was amazed myself when my father actually agreed to what I had asked him."
Niall nodded, still smiling. "Wow, I could've never guessed that. And I'm really sorry for asking you to take me to London when we met, it must hold bad memories for you," Niall told me sheepishly.
I gasped and squeezed him in a bear hug. "It's no problem, silly! And no, London does not hold bad memories for me. I just have to go there one more time to get over it, you know? And of course you can come with," I added, and gave Niall a sideways smile.
He cheered excitedly and pecked my cheek, which made me blush like mad. "Oh, wait! I've a question!"
"Shoot."
"You said the cat hybrid characteristics are ears, tails and... whiskers, right? So, you have only ears?"
"Ah, good question. You see Ni, every hybrid has different physical traits. Some have all three, some have none like my Dad, and some have only two of them, like me."
Niall's eyes widened. "Which two?! You have ears, whoa, do you have a tail too?!"
I laughed. "No, I have whiskers."
"What? Where?"
I pointed to the place above my lips. "Here." I grabbed Niall's hand and brushed his fingers over my tiny whiskers. I wrinkled my nose as they tickled under his touch.
Niall pulled his hand back in awe. "You can't see them, but you can touch them."
"Yeah," I nodded, chuckling. "Thanks Niall," I spoke sincerely, standing up.
He understood. "No problem, Lou. You're my cutest friend!" I giggled as he pulled me into a tight hug, and I hugged him back. God, he gives the best hugs ever!
"Why, thank you!" Niall chuckled, his head buried in my shoulder. I blushed and pulled away.
"Well, I better be goin.' Thanks for the tea Kitty Lou," Niall added cheekily.
"Seriously? Kitty Lou?" I pouted.
Niall just laughed that adorable laugh of his, ruffling my hair. Once again, he ran his fingers over my ears, making them twitch.
"Alright, see you tomorrow at the shop," I smiled at him. I followed him to the door. Just as he was about to walk out, "Wait!" I grabbed his arm.
"Yeah?" I didn't reply, just grabbed his face and planted a big kiss on his cheek, which soon turned pink.
"Aha, bye Louis."
"Bye, Niall!" I called out, grinning to myself.
Kitty Lou, I love it.
