"I'm sorry, Mr and Mrs. Smallbone. Your child did not make it."

Those words repeated over and over in Joel and Moriah's mind. They couldn't believe it.

Moriah sobbed into Joel's shoulder, realizing what had just happened. Joel cried, his tears falling on top of Moriah's head.
There little baby girl, Alexis, didn't make it. She died at birth. Moriah sobbed harder remembering Alexis last breath, in her arms.

Moriah sniffed and gasped in air. Tears rolled down her cheeks, and into her hands.
Joel cried, loudly. He usually cried quietly, but this was just to much to keep inside.

The doctor couldn't bare to see their suffering. He turned away, in sadness. It was the most difficult part of his job, telling someone that a loved one had died.
The doctor quickly said a quick prayer, because he knew that little Alexis was in heaven.

Moriah covered her face on the hospital bed, sobbing into her hands. Sniffing and screaming.

Joel walked away to a wall. In his hands a little pink stuffed bunny. It was for Alexis. Joel could still remember her tiny breaths. And when she fluttered her eyes open.

He looked at the little bunny. In its eyes, he saw his reflection. He was broken. He couldn't bare it. His eyes watered up and he cried.
He leaned on the wall, and slowly slid down, sobbing. His face fell into his hands, and he dropped the bunny on the ground.

Their little girl, who didn't even make it through life, was dead.

-------

It was time for Moriah and Joel to go. They were going on tour.

They walked down some halls, to the nearest elevator.
They found one.
The bad news was, they had to pass by the window that showed all new-born babies.

Moriah took a deep breath, and resisted the urge to cry. Joel noticed, and held her hand. He gave her a sad smile, but Moriah couldn't smile back. She looked at the ground and bit her lip, trying not to cry.

They were halfway to the elevator. That's when Moriah turned and looked at the babies. She remembered Alexis, and she cried quietly. Joel pulled her close, hugging her. Joel grabbed his coat and covered her face when they went outside.

They walked across the parking lot, to their white SUV. Moriah crossed through the back, covering her face because of the fans. She hopped into the passenger seat and locked the door. Joel covered his face too, and got into the driver's side and locked the door. They put their seat belts on, and drove away, to the highway. Moriah hid her face with her brunette short hair. Joel kept his eyes on the road, but his mind was somewhere else.
He thought about Alexis.

He took a sharp turn into a closed, old gas station. He parked in the back of the gas station, beside an old rusty, green dumpster. He turned of the car, and they sat in silence.

That's when Moriah broke down. She brought her knees to her chest, and buried her face into her knees, and sobbed.
Joel cried too, into his hands.
They both couldn't see each other, so Joel stepped out the car, leaving Moriah in the car alone.

He walked to a the side walk and sat down. He sighed, and put is head in his hands. He cried for his loss. Then, he looked up at heaven and shook his head.
"Why God? Why me? Why did you have to take her?! All my years I have worshiped you. I have given you everything! Why?!" He yelled and cried out to heaven. He fell onto his knees.

Moriah scried out to heaven, too.
"Lord, why did you take her away? She was so innocent. What did I do to deserve this?" She let her tears fall into her hands. She gasped in air, yelling in sadness and anger.

Finally, after several minutes, they calmed down, got back in the car, and drove to the airport. Tonight, their tour began.

--------

"Doctor! Come!" A nurse in pink scrubs yelled into the hallway and ran back to the room. The doctor, who was talking to another nurse, turned around and followed, along with the other nurse.

They entered the room, where Moriah stayed. It had been seven hours since Moriah and Joel left.

The doctor and the nurse ran in, the other nurse stood beside the baby bed, where they left the baby. It was still.

The doctor gave the nurse a confused look, "What was the emergency?"
The nurse put her index finger on her lips and shushed the nurse and doctor. She then pointed at the blanket, where the baby's dead body laid.

The other nurse and the doctor walked quietly and slowly to the dead baby. Slowly, quietly, but nothing happened. The doctor got closer, leaning in to the body.

The nurses exchanged a look and back to the doctor. Everything was still and quiet.

The doctor leaned in closer.
Then a scream echoed.
The two nurses jumped and the doctor fell back.

The blanket moved, and the baby cried. The nurse ran over to the baby, covered in the blanket. She pulled of the blanket, and there. A healthy, giggling, beautiful baby smiled.

The nurse turned to the other nurse and doctor. She gave a small smiled and breathed heavily.

"She's a miracle baby."
