Moriah and Joel bursted into the social worker's office. Moriah raced in, while Joel paced faster.
The social worker, Mr. Harper, looked up from his desk. He closed his file and stood up. "Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Smallbone."
Moriah sat in one of the chairs and Joel stood standing. Joel nodded. "You as well, thank you." Moriah sat, fidgeting her fingers. She wanted to have Alexis back already. So, she couldn't contain her question.
"Where is my daughter?"The social worker nodded and turned around. He walked to a black metal cabinet and opened it. Yellow file papers were in their. He grabbed one that said, "Carter, Marisole Alexis."
Moriah looked at Joel, confused and mouthed, "Carter?"
Joel shrugged and looked back at Mr. Harper.Mr. Harper sat down and smile. "You're probably asking why she has Carter, well you see, for now she's being fostered."
Joel leaned in a little closer. "Can you explain everything to us?"
Mr. Harper nodded and smiled, "Of course."He sat up straighter and explained everything.
"You see, when Alexis was born, she died, am I correct?" Moriah and Joel nodded. Mr. Harper continued. "Well, she came back to life, but by the time we could contact you, you had already left the continent."
Moriah and Joel nodded at everything he said. "So, the hospital asked me to keep her in the orphanage while ya'll were gone. She stayed here for three years."
Moriah covered her mouth. "But, the tour only lasted two years?"
Mr. Harper nodded. "The hospital didn't remind us. So, we gave her to a family to foster her, until we received the call.""Did you ever receive the call?"
Mr. Harper shook his head. "No. Not until today."Joel got up, "So, with who is my daughter staying with?" Mr. Harper looked up at him. "With a social worker and a doctor." Moriah and Joel processed every word in their heads.
Mr. Harper nodded once more. "I just contacted the social worker Alexis has been staying with, Helen Carter. She has been telling me how Alexis is for the past fourteen years."
Moriah didn't care about that. One question bounced in her head, and she couldn't keep it to herself. "When can I get Alexis back?"
Mr. Harper cocked his head. "That's why we called you here. When and where do you think you could retrieve the minor?" Moriah and Joel looked at each other. Then Joel's face lightened as a plan popped into his mind.
Joel scooted closer to the desk. "Well, me and Moriah are having a concert Bridgestone Arena tomorrow night. Could Mrs. Carter take her? We'll give her VIP passes, whatever she wants."
Mr. Harper nodded. "Of course. I'll contact Mrs. Carter, and you'll get Alexis back tomorrow." Joel and Moriah's faces brightened with smiles. Joel nodded, "Alright then."
Mr. Harper smiled and shook Joel's hand. "Have a wonderful day, Mr. Smallbone."
Joel nodded and put his arm around Moriah. "You, too. And thank you, again."-----------
"Alexis, could you step out to the other room. Your father and I need to talk about something important." Alexis and Dylan were playing UNO. Alexis nodded, obeying her mom, "Okay."
She got up and walked out. She stopped at the door way, turned around and smirked at Dylan. "Don't you dare look at my cards, dad!" Dylan raised his hands. "I can't promise you about that." She giggled and walked out.
