Thicker than water

Dear Family,

I am not quite who you wanted me to be, and for that I will never apologize.

I will never quell my voice, or even turn down my curious eyes.

You will not get me to follow blindly in your harsh faith,

But I promise that I will not deliver myself to the accursed wraith.

Our blood is thick, hot through my veins,

But one look into the unknown and I wish not to be the same.

Bonds tighter than cloth, woven forever together,

My love for you is older than my years, and all the more weathered.

You pressure me to silence, obedience, to be the bearer.

But I long to shout to the skies that I am so much fairer.

Really, it's wrong of you to wish to change my heart

I want no change from you, have accepted you from the start!!

So please, dear family, if our bond really is so strong,

Let me shed this tight skin and unfurl my song.
