Chapter 7

We pulled into his driveway and I looked at the clock, "shit it's 10:40 my parents are going to be so worried!"

"What's the harm you said you were going for a long walk, i guess it really was a really long walk,".

I laughed at his stupidity and said, "I don't know what I would do if you weren't here to comfort me!"

I hopped out of the car and into his backyard to grab Joy. I called her name but it was so dark I couldn't see her, or anything for that matter.

I felt arms snake around me and Corey yelled "HEY!"

"Oh my god Corey you scared me!" I was shaking because 1 he scared me 2 I need to find joy and 3 I'm going to get murdered when I get home.

"Hey you cold?" He asked.

"No it's fine I'm just a little nervous that's all,".

"Hey, you'll be okay stop stressing. I'll go get Joy,".

He walked off to get Joy and returned minutes later with her.

"Thanks for tonight I'm happy I got to know you. You're really not all that bad compared to what people say about you, you know,".

"I'm happy you gave me the chance. But, I'm really not as good as you think I am. Talya, I've done some really bad things..."

I cut him off, "Corey stop it! Everyone makes mistakes, but I trust you,".

With that I gave him a hug and said, "see you around,". And walked away. I opened the door to my darkened house. I guess everyone went to bed. I climbed the stairs and put pjs on and went to sleep with joy at the foot of my bed.

I woke up the next morning and went through my normal routine of homework and showering. It's a Saturday and yes that's my schedule what do you want from me I said I'm a boring person?! Tonight Matt's family was hosting a neighbor get to together with my family and Grace's, too. The weather was nice and it was semi-casual so I decided on a light gray cardigan, a dark gray t-shirt dress, huge sunglasses, and some keds. Yes, I know I'm adorable. It was 6:30 so we headed over. Boy, was I gonna have some stories to tell!

We walked across the street and into Matt's house. All of the kids were in the basement and I made my way towards Grace and Matt.

"You have some explaining to do," Matt said.

"Wh-what?" I stuttered. How did he know?

"I saw you with Corey yesterday! I thought we told you to stay away!"

"Guys listen, he was really nice to me, honest. And he's funny and actually surprisingly sweet,"

"It's just an act Talya! He's trying to use you! Do you honestly think he cares about you at all? Corey is bad news, he's actually insane! I don't know if you remember this, but he was accused of burning down his old house?!"

"Matt, don't you hear yourself? He was accused! That means people suspected it was him, but it's not proven!" My eyes rimmed with tears, I was just starting to really like him, but now Matt of course had to bring me to reality. Corey is bad. Corey is a criminal. Corey is a druggie. Corey is a heartbreaker. What on earth am I doing??
