The anger bubbled up inside of me blurring my thoughts. My fists balled up and I couldn't contain myself. All of the things matt had been doing weren't fair to Corey. I've started to have real, true feelings for Corey, and I don't need matt ruining it.
Matt just stared at me with wide eyes seeing how angry I was. "Talya, calm down please I can explain."
"Well matt, i don't think any explaining needs to be done! I've had enough of your constant going behind my back and sabotaging everything Corey and I have!"
"How many times do I have to tell you? He's NOT GOOD TALYA! He's practically a criminal! And you want me to allow you to date him even when I know he's a criminal? He doesn't go to our school Talya because he got kicked out!"
"Sure he has a bad past and I know that. It's just, well, I have real feelings for him matt. And I think he does for me too. I need to see where this takes us, and me, and him, too. He needs me because no one else gives him a chance!"
Matt stood there with a disappointed look on his face, totally defeated.
"It's your life Talya, I'm just warning you for the worst."
With that, he walked down the stairs. A few tears escaped my eyes. How am I supposed to live with this secret? Why does it have to be a secret? Why can't everyone know I'm dating him? Why am I so afraid of what they will think?
I thought about the harm it might cause if I did tell my parents about Corey, and quickly decided against saying anything. I mean, what if they banned me from ever seeing him again or something?
It was time for dinner so we all went downstairs to be greeted by a large table of food. Once everyone took their seats at the table, we heard cars screeching in the streets and whooping from outside.
"There's that kid again, Corey. He's gonna hurt someone driving that fast and wild around here!" Mr. Brennings said angrily.
"Did you see what he did to matt? Look at his face! Matt says he just attacked him yesterday and punched him in the face! That kid has unbelievable issues!" Matt's mom chimed in.
The dinner turned into a royal mess. The whole time all the parents just kept talking about Corey and how insane he is. Matt nodded in agreement while grace sent me occasional sympathetic looks.
Then it happened.
"Didn't you say this boy spoke to you the other day Talya? At the block party?" My mom asked.
"Um, well, just for a while. We are neighbors anyways. And we were just talking about the dogs, you know. He's actually very, very sweet you just have to talk to him a little-"
"Talya don't you ever talk to him again! Are you crazy? I don't want you to talk to people like that! Just please stay away!"
The whole table looked shocked at my defending of Corey. I wouldn't ever lie about him, it's true he is really sweet.
I looked at everyone around the table before excusing myself to go to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror, seeing the tears form in my eyes. I quickly brushed them away and returned to the table.
"Mom, I'm really sorry but I need to go home i really don't feel well. Can I please just go home?"
"Of course sweety. We'll be home later though! Good night!"
"Good Night thanks for dinner! Bye everyone!"
And you know exactly where I was headed.
