While sitting in my parents attorney's office waiting for them to finish up, my mind goes back to the day in the hallway, Gage looking directly at me and saying those words that ripped and shattered my heart into a million pieces right there in front of everyone. "That's what you left me for?" He said as his eyes pierced my soul. I'm sure he had no idea just how bad his words cut me but I'm sure that was the purpose of him saying them. Gage wasn't the kind of guy to just hurt someone for the fun of it. When he spoke he meant every word that came out of his mouth.
After he walked away and out of my life for good, Matt had decided that words were not a good enough punishment for his best friends betrayal. He struck Blaze so hard and so quick that his friend ended up knocked out cold on the cold tile of the hallway. Everyone in the circle soon dispersed and our parents were once again called to the school as well as the police. Matt was talked to with our parents present but no charges were brought to him for assaulting Blaze. Blaze however was in jail on charges of child sexually abuse activities due to the fact that he had uploaded the pictures of me and a video of the act itself. He wasn't yet charged with it but after talking to lawyers and being under the age of 18 myself, he could be looking at 4-20 years in a prison all because he didn't like the fact that I wouldn't get with him and was dating Gage.
"You understand that the charges against Blaze are serious enough for him to have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life?" The lawyer was staring at me.
I tuned back in taking my mind off of Gage and back to the present. My parents were both staring at me too. "Yes, I get that and I really don't care what he has to go through after what he posted of me."
"Chances are there will not be a trial considering he has already admitted to posting the pictures and video, but his lawyers have informed me that they do not see sending him to prison for 20 years will benefit him in any way."
My father spoke up, "We don't want 20 years for the boy, I mean he was like a son to us, but some harsh punishment is needed. He did drug our daughter who put herself in the position for the stupid act in the first place. With that being said what are his lawyers asking for?"
The lawyer shuffled some papers around, "Ah here we go." He read the document to himself first before reading aloud, "In the case against Blaze, our client admits his guilt and asks the opposing side for some lenience due to the fact that something like this could be a lifetime of hardship against the boy. They ask that he serve out his sentence of the minimum of 4 years on a probation standpoint. No jail time is what they are asking for. They also want to change the charges so he would not have to register as a sex offender."
"So basically he wants a slap on the wrist because this day and age children think that they can get away with posting such things and have no consequences, is that what we are saying here?"
"In not so many words." The lawyer looked at my parents, "The choice is still in our court. We can go full speed and take this to the max."
I sat quietly as my father and the lawyer went back and forth. My phone buzzed with a text message from Matt who was working with Gage as punishment for driving home drunk that night. Thanks to my father he got the job for the remainder of the school year. No sports for my brother unless he could work, keep his grades up and still find time to be active at home too. Matt had not known what hard work was when it came to a job and I had the text messages to prove it.
Finally they all looked at me. I looked up at the staring eyes of my father, mother and the lawyer.
"What do you want Bliss? After all this does affect you too."
I honestly just wanted it all to go away. Two months of nothing but talks of pictures, of being looked at as a slut, being called one, to top it off Gage looking at me like it was all my fault. I was just ready to have all of it behind me. I wanted my life back with no more bullshit about Facebook or social media in general. But that wasn't going to happen. Not anytime soon anyway. "I just want it all to end." I finally said feeling defeated.
"End how Bliss we need some input here." My mother said growing annoyed.
"Slap him on the wrist I really don't care anymore. I thought that going through with all this would get me some closure but it doesn't, I have to keep reliving it all and I really just want to forget it all happened. Make that happen, I don't really care how." I said standing. I couldn't take it anymore; tears were beginning to burn from behind my eyelids. I walked out of the room and started walking. I didn't care where I ended up I just wanted to get away.
