The whole night Jody wouldn't answer me. I had blown up her phone asking what she was thinking about talking to Gage and I wanted to know why she was texting him in the first place. She hated the guy because he was once a loser and he sure as hell didn't have the kind of money that her past relationships had. Gage was different, he was sweet and funny and capable of loving someone unconditionally. I knew I blew it but I wasn't about to let someone like Jody get her claws into him.
The next morning I waited by her locker like I did every morning. She made her way towards me and smiled my way, "Hey bestie, sorry I didn't get a chance to call you back last night, I was super busy."
"Really too busy with Gage?"
She looked at me shocked that I would have such information. "What?" She finally said.
"I know you are texting him, why? You don't even like him like that. In fact you've told me before that he doesn't make enough money for him to get a chance at you."
"Slow down, I text him because I can talk to anyone I want too first of all. Secondly, you opened my eyes to the losers I used to date. They were so superficial that I want to try something new. Plus you're over him, aren't you? What's the harm?"
I looked at my once best friend in a new light. Wasn't there some sort of girl code that stated the unwritten rule that girls don't date each other's exes? Or did this not imply to us. "The harm is he's my ex."
She looked at me then down the hall. I turned and caught what she was looking at, Gage and Matt walking into the building together. "What the hell is going on here?!?" Matt didn't like Gage, but now they were best friends because they were working together? My best friend now wanted him because I didn't anymore? Was this all just a dream that I would wake up from any minute....
The guys came over to us, Matt stood next to me and Gage stood next to him, Jody turned her body towards him puffing out her chest in her low cut shirt. I rolled my eyes. Matt spoke up first, "So this weekend we're going to head up to the club, if ya'll want to join us, we're inviting a few other's to stop by too."
"I'm in if you're going to be there." Jody said smiling reaching out to touch Gage's arm.
I rolled my eyes; of course he was looking good wearing his dark jeans and a t-shirt that hugged his muscular body. His hair was a little longer on the top but still short on the sides, my fingers ached to reach up and run my fingers through it.
Gage smiled, "I'll be there." His eyes met with mine for a moment before he looked away.
Matt slapped his back, "Now lets go ask a few others. Let's get this party going." With that they walked away leaving both Jody and myself looking after them.
"That'll be mine this weekend." Jody said looking towards me, "That's okay with you, right?"
I looked at her, "Sure, have fun." I turned and walked towards my class, which of course was my first class with Gage.
I walked into the room to see Gage seated at his desk; he was leaning back with his focus on the girl, Jayden, who was sitting on his desktop. I rolled my eyes but kept my attention on him. He flirted back as she flipped her dark hair over her shoulders. She was pretty with her tanned skin, curves in all the right places that guys seemed to focus on. She and my brother had talked a couple years ago but nothing happened between them. She hadn't been wild enough for Matt and his ego. I sat at my desk and faced the board and waited for the teacher to put me out of my misery and start the class. Finally he did.
