The ride back to the jobsite was pretty quiet. Matt looked out the window until I pulled into my parking spot and got out of the truck. I went back over to start working and he soon followed. Halfway through the hole Matt stood up and leaned against the shovel. "You know she still likes or loves you, right?"
I looked up, "What?"
"Bliss, dude, my sister. She is still completely stuck on you."
I looked at him trying to figure out what his motive was in telling me this information.
He shrugged, "I just thought you should know. That being said, any other girl had did that shit to me, I'd never talk to her again."
I opened my mouth but closed it unable to think of anything to really say back to that. Instead I went back to digging.
After a few moments of silence Matt spoke again, "But really dude Jody?" He smirked, "Look I know you are new to all this kind of attention but you could do way better than that."
I again just looked at him, 'was Matt trying to actually make girl conversation with me? He must really be at a loss of friends.'
"I'm just saying, its obvious the girls are looking at you as new meet after all this shitty hard work." He laughed, "You should take advantage of your new status and roll with it. Don't get tied down play the field!"
"Didn't you just tell me that your own sister was still stuck on me and now you're telling me to play the field with other girls?"
He laughed, "Look I'm just saying that you're in a really good spot right now. Why don't you come up to the country club this weekend and meet some new people."
'Was he being serious?' The country club was a member's only kind of place. A place that my family was not a part of due to the fact that we made nowhere near the amount of money it took to get a membership at that place. Now Matt, who only a few short weeks ago was one of my most hated enemies, was now asking me to join him?
"What can I say, I'm trying here." Matt finally said setting the shovel aside and taking a drink of water.
"You know what, fuck it, let's do it."
He grinned, "That's more like it."
