The next morning I got up, showered and made my way downstairs. Hannah was sitting at the kitchen table eating toast as I grabbed a bowl and filled it with cereal. "Pass the milk?" I asked looking at her.
She kept her eyes on her bread as she handed me the carton.
"What's your problem this morning?" I asked pouring milk into my bowl.
"Nothing is my problem Gage. Surprised you had time to even notice."
I looked at her and raised my eyebrow, "What?"
She rolled her eyes, "A party with Matt for your birthday, you already made plans with Racer this weekend or did you forget that being so high and mighty now?"
I chewed my cereal, I had totally forgotten that Racer had asked me about fishing at the lake this weekend; we did it every year for my birthday. It was something that I really looked forward too. A getaway from all the bullshit and some much needed chill time with my best friend. I felt like a dick. "I thought it was next weekend?" I said shrugging my shoulders.
Hannah's eyes were like daggers, as she looked straight through me. "I'm sure he'll understand after reading all the Facebook posts from your new friends." She got up from the table and walked outside.
I put my bowl in the sink and headed out the door to my truck, Hannah was standing at the end of the driveway, "No ride today?" I asked her seeing as how she normally rode with me most days.
"Racer is picking me up."
At that moment Racer's beat up car pulled up in front of the house. He didn't even look my way as Hannah climbed into the seat next to him and they soon pulled away from the curb. I sighed and got into my truck. 'Great.' I thought as I backed down the driveway. The last thing I wanted was for Racer to feel left out but I knew he and Matt would never get along enough to run in the same place.
I pulled into my parking spot next to Matt's truck, which wasn't here yet. I scanned the parking lot for Racer's car. I didn't see it as I got out and slung my backpack over my shoulder. I started heading towards the school as Matt's truck pulled into his spot. He and Bliss climbed out of it, he walked over towards me as Bliss headed towards the school.
"Good morning to you too Bliss." I said after her.
She turned and half smiled at me, "Sorry, just really have to get inside."
"Okay?"
She headed off leaving both Matt and myself looking after her. I tilted my head, "What's that about?" I asked.
He shrugged, "I have no idea man. She's been weird all morning. Guessing girl problems."
I nodded not entirely sure what that meant but didn't really put much more thought into it.
"So anyway, I must have gotten like 200 invite requests last night for your party dude." Matt said as we made our way up the steps and into the building.
I scanned the hallways for Racer or Hannah, neither one were in my sights. Everyone else seemed to be looking over my way though.
"Hey girl, you coming to Gage's party this weekend?" Matt said towards a group of girls that had gathered by the water fountain.
They all smiled at him and then towards me, "Of course we are."
"Wouldn't miss it for the world." A blond hair girl whom I never seen before said as she reached out and touched my chest. "Loved the picture last night." She winked at me and smiled bigger.
'She was on my Facebook?' I would have to look through my friends list again and find out who was hidden because after a certain point I had just started to hit the add button. "Thanks." I said smiling back.
"Can't wait to see all of that in person on Saturday." She said.
I nodded as Bliss walked by heading in the direction towards our first class together. I watched her as she disappeared into the room, she turned around once and our eyes met for a brief moment before she was gone.
The bell rang signaling for us to head towards our classes, "See you ladies on Saturday." Matt said adding, "swimsuits only no other clothes allowed!" He patted my chest, "Dude this is going to be so fucking amazing."
"Yeah it will be." I said before heading towards my first period.
