"Are we there yet?" Annabeth turned to Percy to and grumbled into his ear.
He turned to her, patting her on the shoulder. I could tell he was trying not to lose his cool with her. God, girls could be so clingy and annoying sometimes. And of course we weren't there yet! Goodness, I thought Annabeth's mom was the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena. Yup, that's what I said. I'm Nico diAngelo, and my dad is Hades.
Mmhmm. Are you freaking out yet? No? Good, because all three of us, Percy, Annabeth and I are all demigods. One of our parents was a Goddess or God, and the other was just a plain old mortal. We have plenty of half siblings because ... well , our parents like to make babies. Anyway, Percy's dad is Poiseidon, Annabeth's is Athena and mine is Hades.
Pretty cool, huh?
Not really. The life of a demigod is hard and not very pleasant. If we die, we most likely will have shrouds and battle souvenirs as memoirs. No bodies. We go off on quests to save the world many times during the year and to rescue other demigods who don't know what they are. We save them from monsters who are all out to hunt demigods. Monsters are ancient Greek thingies.
Like we are right now. Percy, Annabeth (why?!), and I got chosen to go rescue a couple of demigods from Canada. We are traveling by boat, as Percy will probably get blasted out of the sky if we go by plane. Zues has a grudge against him for refusing to be turned into a God. I know, stupid right? Geezus, Percy!
"Annabeth, you asked that question five minutes ago. To answer your question, no, we're not there yet. Two more hours," I snapped, then muttered under my breath, "and finally I'll be free of you."
"What was that, Nico?" She retorted. Annabeth flipped her long blonde braid over her shoulder and snuggled back into the crook of Percy's shoulder.
Young love. How adorable. Not. I don't believe in love, I have my whole life ahead of me, considering I don't get eaten by a dinosaur or something. I'm only fifteen.
As Annabeth fell back asleep, Percy turned to me and grimaced. I nodded. I felt a little sorry for him, but it was his fault for snagging the girl anyway. I swiveled around in my seat and rested my legs on the table in front of myself. Ah, the life. But first - I snapped my fingers - a glass of lemonade appeared in my olive-skinned palm. Now, this was the life.
Relaxing...blue skies...palm trees....
"Are we there yet?" Annabeth's obnoxious voice cut into my daydream.
"Holy crap, Annabeth, are you going to yabber the entire time there?" I asked, sitting up and turning towards her.
"What," she whined, "I'm really tired of this stupid boat. Percy make it go faster!"
"Don't," I warned, "make it go faster. Or I will spill my lemonade all over your fancy girlfriend, here."
Percy cringed, "You guys..."
"Make him go away," Annabeth growled.
"Make her go away!" I yelled.
"You guys...tipping the boat," Percy managed gingerly.
With a great sploosh we tipped over on Annabeth's side and fell out the boat. I was soaking wet all over. I cursed and spluttered as I grabbed hold of the boat rim and pulled myself up. Annabeth was still in the water, crying and being a drama queen.
Girls.
This is why I don't believe in love.
"Percy, dry me off once you finish with her," I scowled as I blew on my hands. At least all the sweat build up was gone. Hey, you sweat a lot when you're in the middle of the summer, in the middle of an ocean, while the middle of the sun beats down on you.
HOT. And not funny or cool. Just hot. And add the whining of a loser-girl (Annabeth) and it's basically the worst time of your life.
Percy climbed ino the boat, dry and not a hair out of place. I was drenched. Annabeth was dried off now. They both looked loads better than I did.
"Sorry, my man," Percy said, clapping me on the shoulder as he slumped back into his seat.
Suddenly I was dry again. It felt good now. If only I could have my wonderful lemonade back, but no, all thanks to Annabeth my lemonade was now floating upon the ocean, its sweetness now gone. I was rather angry, but whatever, I could always get a new one later. Besides, now the shore was nearing and I was getting anxious.
Two new half-bloods to save.
Let's hope we get through this. Without dying, or losing an arm...or something like that.
