12th Chapter :
Vanessa POV :
The car ride to the theatre was awfully silent. Pyper was fully focused on the road, and didn't speak a word, not once. Brad, on the other hand, tried to start the conversation, but stopped as soon as he realized it was leading to nowhere. I guess that he must've noticed that I didn't feel like talking.
I was pissed. Yes I was pissed at him, but I tried not to show it. And I hated myself for being angry against him, when I perfectly knew it wasn't his fault...well not entirely...
So instead of talking, I just kept looking out the window.
I watched as we passed by, houses, trees, or just citizens walking in the street in general, until the car finally started slowing down."And we're here"
Says an excited Brad, behind me, as soon as we arrive at destination.
Pyper parks the car in line, behind many others, all expensive ones. From the best sports car to the last and most luxurious Mercedes.
People were already here, important and well, rich people.
I watched as they stepped out of their cars, buttoned their jackets, or checked their make-up in a little mirror when it comes to woman.
Not bothering to warn any of us, Pyper gets out of the car. Brad rushes after her, and opens the door for me.
"Here, let me take that for you"
He says as he takes my violin case from my hands.
I thank him with a smile.
What he was doing was unnecessary. It was probably a way for him to excuse himself for what was going to happen: me performing alone.
The three of us walked in silence, to the front of the biggest theater in the city. As suspected, all eyes were focused on us, or should I say, on her?
From the corner of my eye, I could see Pyper clench her jaw. You could easily tell that she was feeling uncomfortable.
What made you stop Pyper Smith?
I ask myself as I completely turn my head to look at her.
It seems that she noticed it, for she does the same, her eyes lock with mine, and once again, I am taken aback by the huge amount of sadness in them. To be honest, it made me pity her, it made me want to make things better for her, it made me want to make her happy. I desperately wanted to.
Pyper then does the unexpected: she smiles at me.
Well, she tried, but that was enough for me.
So I smile back at her.
I smile back, because I knew, at that exact moment, that there was still hope. At that moment, I knew I could make her happy, I knew I could make her smile again.
"Dear lord isn't that..."
Whispers some man as we walk by him.
My bad, it wasn't just any random man. No. That man was our mayor.
Finally, we walk inside the theater, and arrive in the hallway. There, we are welcomed by two of the most handsome men I've ever seen in my life. Nah who am I joking? They're ugly:
"Damn it Vanessa, you look flawless!"
Screams one of them, attracting many eyes on us.
Tyler elbows Jason in the ribs.
"Watch your language"
He warns as he pushes his glasses back on his nose with his finger, whereas his other hand was buried in his pocket.
