Kylesat on his bed impatiently waiting for a phone call from Doom. Hewaited for Doom to knock on the door, or on his window, anything thatwould show he was coming back despite what Kyle had said. Kyle neededDoom just as much as Doom needed him, and this was the longest theyhad been in disagreement with each other since they met.
Thephone had rung several times, and Kyle answered it in seconds, onlyto hear his mother's doctor, or his grandmother's voice. He wasstarting to think Doom had decided to be angry at him, rightfully so,he had concluded, but still he could not apologize.
Kyleknew two things: Massive Retaliation needed to happen, and Doom wasneeded for all to go as plan. Kyle would not dare to commit MassRetal without Doom. Doom could be caught in the crossfire, he couldget hurt, he would be alone.
Kylestared at his computer Doom played on more than he did. He felt sickto his stomach and tried to push the thoughts of what he had said outof his mind. He lied down on the bed and put a pillow over his face, defeated.
"Kyle?"
Heheard Doom's voice, and wondered if he was imagining it. He pushedthe pillow aside and saw him standing in the doorway, looking moreunhappy than Kyle had seen him in a long time.
"HiDoom."
"HiKyle."
"Imissed you," Kyle admitted.
"Andyou say I'm the needy one," Doom laughed.
Kylesmiled weakly.
Doomentered the room and slowly closed the door. His voice changed to ahushed tone as he approached the bed. "I thought about killingmyself, but then I realized that would be pointless without MassiveRetaliation," he said quietly.
Kylesighed and nodded. "I need you to do it, you know. I can't do italone."
Doomwas silent.
"Youknow, I really am the leader, but that doesn't mean you are any lessimportant than me. You are my partner, and I panicked when you saidMass Retal was off."
"Ifelt so good, I forgot what it was like to feel bad. I forgot why wewere doing it."
"We'redoing it because it needs to happen," Kyle stated.
"Iknow. You're right," Doom said shyly.
"I'msorry I yelled at you, and said that you were nothing. You're notnothing. You're the most important person I know."
"You'rethe only person who thinks that," Doom said sadly.
"Iknow, but that's why Massive Retaliation needs to happen."
"We'regoing to do it," Doom said firmly.
"April30th,"Kyle replied.
