Luke's POV:
I'm finally in Tasmania and I pull up to the house. The outside of the house is empty, so I walk up to the door. The door is unlocked, so I carefully and slowly walk inside. I walk down the hall and to the bedroom. I open it slowly and peak my head in. It's empty. I look in the kitchen and it's obviously been used this morning. There are a few pans still on the stove. I felt one of the pans. They're still a little warm. Someone had just cooked something. I hear the front door open and then slam shut. I panic and quickly run down the hallway on the other side of the house. I run down to the basement. I look around and it looks like it has been made into a bedroom. A shitty bedroom with just a gross mattress on the floor.
"Wh-Who's there?" A shaky girl's voice sounds. I quickly turn around and see Zoey.
"Oh, my god! You're alive?" I beam. She does not look well. She looks weak and defeated. Like she hasn't eaten in days and she has very noticeable bruises and scars all over.
"Oh, god. Y-You have to get out of here and hurry!" She panics. What?
"What are you talking about? You're safe now. I can take you home." I tell her.
"No, please. Just go. You'll only make things worse." She frights.
"But Zoey-" I'm interrupted by the basement door opening and then slamming shut.
"Hide in the back. Go. Hurry!" She whispers and I oblige, rushing to the back.
"It's 4 o'clock. You know what that means. Come on." The man's voice sounds. I instantly know whose voice that is. My father is alive.
"Dad?!" I call and he turns around. Zoey looks scared. My father smirks.
"Hello, son." He says to me.
"What the hell is the matter with you?!" I shout.
"Oh, Luke. Honor thy father and mother." He gives me a devilish smile.
"You are in no position to quote the bible, father!" I scold.
"You need to leave. I don't want to have to hurt you." My father warns.
"I'm not leaving without that girl." I tell him.
"Suit yourself. Danny!" He yells. A big man with dark skin and a bald head walks into the basement.
"Yes, boss?" The man says.
"Take care of the boy." My father says, looking me dead in the eyes.
"And don't make a mess." My father adds and I gulp in fear. I never fear anything, but the fact of the matter is that this is the end. This man is going to kill me and I can't physically do anything about it. The man grabs my arm and leads me up the stairs. When we get to the living room, he looks me in the eyes.
"I don't want to kill you." He tells me. I feel a slight amount of relief, but I don't let my guard down.
"Just get out of here now and don't come back." He adds.
"No! I will not leave without Zoey!" I tell him. He shushes me.
"Keep your voice down or he'll hear you." He warns quietly.
"It's too late for her, but you can still make it out of here. She's been with us too long, she's seen too much, but you can survive if you just leave now and don't turn back." He advises, but I decline.
"I'm not leaving without Zoey." I stand my ground. We hear footsteps start to approach.
"Look, I'll see what I can do about the girl. Meet me in the alley behind the servo on 86th tonight at 2am. That's when he has me take her to get groceries. I'll give her to you then." He whispers, but then clears his throat as we see my father and Zoey approach. My dad has way too tight of a grip on Zoey's arm for my liking.
