Sixteen

Zoey's POV:
I hear sirens blare out front as we all talk in the basement. A look of hope strikes all of our faces. It's been 32 hours since I arrived here for the second time.

"Hey, lift me up." I say to the guys and they oblige, lifting me so that I can see through the window. The yard is littered with police and a S.W.A.T. team. Ashton, Calum, and Michael are also here. They're standing next to Ashton's black Chevy Suburban.

"What's going on?" Alice asks.

"We're getting out of here." I tell her with a smile on my face. The basement door slams open and the S.W.A.T. team barges in.

"Come on, you guys. You're safe now." One man says. They lead us up the stairs. I see Mark and his friends getting arrested and for the first time in a long time, I actually feel safe. The second I get outside, I run to the guys and they wrap me in a hug.

"Thank you guys so much for helping get me and the others out of there. How could I ever repay you?" I breathe.

"Don't mention it, love." Michael smiles. Ricky, Evan, and Alice walk over to us and I give them all a hug.

"Do you guys know where you're going?" I ask them.

"I'm from Sydney." Ricky answers.

"Same." Alice adds.

"Me too." Evan states. A couple of officers approach us.

"How are you guys doing?" One officer asks. We look at each other and smile.

"Great." Evan answers. I look at Alice and she looks sad. She doesn't have a place to go now. There's no way in hell I'm letting her go back to her parents. They'll just sell her to someone else.

"Um, can I talk to you for a minute, please?" I ask an officer. She nods and we walk about 20 feet away.

"Alice can't go back to her parents." I tell her.

"And why is that?" She asks.

"Her parents sold her to Mark for drug money." I say and her eyes widen.

"Okay. That's something we'll have to investigate. In the meantime, we'll find her a temporary home." She tells me.

"You mean, like a foster home?" I ask and she nods.

"Just until we can figure things out." She says and I nod.

"Is there any way of her staying in a foster home in Sydney? Then, I can visit her and she'll have a familiar face." I ask and she smiles.

"I'll see what I can do." We walk back to everyone.

"Alice, you're coming with us." The woman I talked to tells her. Alice looks confused.

"I keep my promises. You're not going back to your parents. They're going to put you in foster care for a little while." I tell her and she instantly wraps her arms around me.

"Thank you!" She beams. I hug her back.

"Of course. They're trying to find one in Sydney so that I can see you." I tell her and she smiles.

"Well, I'll see you around." She says with a smile. I smile back.

"See you around." The officer takes her to the squad car.

"Evan, Ricky, come on." A male officer says. I give them a hug.

"Take care of yourselves." I tell them.

"You too." Ricky says and they walk off.

"You ready to go?" Calum asks. I nod.

"I'm so ready." I tell them and Ashton opens my door for me.
