Chapter 20: Revelation
Emiko could only stare at him completely baffled. Trying to form words, she failed considerable when only a quiet squeak passed her lips. "What did you say?" she whispered, as her eyes widened more than they already were.
Pein frowned before gesturing her to take a seat, when he took one as well, "We took a sample of your blood intending to find out about your tumor and how much it was affecting your body. However, a hCG quantity was taken into account and your results were positive for pregnancy."
"But," she started to protest before quieting down and thinking her situation over.
If she were to say that Itachi and her never had sex, it would be a complete lie. They started having sex about two years, but they had always been cautious of how they were doing it. Every single aspect was taken into account including protection.
"It has to be a false positive," she reasoned, "I mean I've had no pregnancy symptoms at all these past couple of weeks!"
Pein sighed, rubbing his temples again, which he had been doing a lot more lately. It was a surprise to him as well, but he was a realist and knew these things are bound to happen no matter if it was a criminal organization.
"Emiko, you've been having seizures though. These seizures were your symptoms. Granted you had them before, but you must have noticed you getting them more often these past weeks. But because of your tumor and pregnancy, you have Eclampsia."
"E-Eclampsia?"
"It's a condition where seizures occur during pregnancy. It is dangerous," he leaned on his desk, emphasizing how serious this situation was, "It can potentially harm you and your child. But we will be monitoring your progression."
"Oh my kami," she breathed leaning back against the chair, her hand gently placed upon her stomach, "...I'm pregnant." She whispered, the truth affecting her positively now, and getting over the shock, "How long?"
"According to your report, you conceived about 3 weeks ago."
Her arms tightened around her stomach automatically, already having the feelings of protection towards the baby that was growing inside of her. She felt Konan's reassurance squeeze on her shoulder, and couldn't help but thank her.
"Emiko."
She immediately looked up and noticed Pein's Rinnegan flashing more brightly than ever. His lips were pursed with rational thoughts, "That child will be the heir to the Uchiha Clan," he nodded towards her stomach, "It has Uchiha blood running through it's veins. This is a dangerous pregnancy; you must realize that. If word gets out that Itachi Uchiha's lover is pregnant with his child, then your life will be at risk."
Emiko froze with fear and her blood ran cold from the sudden news. It had completely escaped her mind that the baby inside of her was half Uchiha and half Hatake. Two powerful genes inside a single being practically screamed 'I'm a target.' This child wasn't even born and he/she was already in danger.
"Konan," Pein looked up towards his partner and motioned her to take the young kunoichi to her room to rest. The Ame nin took Emiko by the shoulders and led her out of the office carefully. He groaned lightly before taking out a scroll and swiftly writing a message with an inked brush. Forming hand signs, a poof revealed a smaller version of the Animal Path's Giant Drill-beaked bird. He attached the scroll to its peak and with that the animal flew away.

Emiko sat up against her head board within her room after Konan had left a few minutes ago. Recovering from her shock, she pulled up her shirt to right underneath her chest and gazed at her stomach. It was of course flat how it normally was, no signs indicating that she pregnant at all. The baby wasn't even a baby yet, rather just a small itty-bitty cell.
