Hoseok really got the job and as far as Jungkook could tell, he was really enjoying it. The downside of it was that he got really busy, only meeting Jungkook during classes and practices. Even Jimin complained about his lack of roommate, saying that Hoseok always came back later then he should after work.
But whenever he asked about work, Hoseok's eyes sparkled with the same warmth he noticed back in the Room.
Jungkook was happy to see that Hoseok smiled so openly, but it left him to spend more time with his meddling hyungs and Jimin – it started to wear him down.'Yo, Kookie!' Namjoon dropped down next to him after his lectures. 'What's up?'
Jungkook sighed, rubbing his eyes. 'Hyung, I'm dead tired... can't you get Jimin and Taehyung off my back? I promise I will take care of Jin-hyung.'
Namjoon laughed at his plea, and Jungkook noted absentmindedly that he wore the same clothes the day before too. He must have slept in one of the studios again...
'Yeah.' Namjoon grinned, pointing at his clothes. 'The missing-balance-of-all, aka Hoseok-problem got to me too... I much rather sleep in the studios then listen to Jin's and Taehyung's theories.'
'Maybe you should exchange rooms, so you could sleep peacefully.' Jungkook chuckled, offering up some of his coffee to Namjoon.
'Yeah, me and Yoongi-hyung... we could work all day without coming out of our rooms while Jin-hyung and Taehyung rule the world from theirs...' Namjoon nodded, sipping on the coffee before he grimaced. 'Jesus, that's a terrifying thought! No we'll be skipping that. I will sleep in the studios.'
Jungkook laughed heartily at his hyung's expression, because really, even the thought was disastrous.
'At least they seem to have fun.' Namjoon said with a long, suffering sigh.' Especially Taehyung. He seems to be up to something.'
'When isn't he...'Jungkook chuckled.
'Right. So how is the choreography for the competition? Is it coming together finally?' he asked, handing back Jungkook's coffee with a graceful bow of thank you.
'I spend most of my time trying to salvage my parts when Jimin-hyung comes crushing down on them... He tries to pick my choreography apart, when he should work on his own.'
'Well aren't you glad, that Hoseok is in charge of the group parts?'
'Yeah, but it still leaves me with Jimin at the end of the day. He just appears every time I try to practice.'
'Cute, he just can't be without his favorite.'
'Not you too, hyung!'So Jungkook suffered the ever growing presence of Jimin while Jin had a field trip at his expense. He didn't know what the fuss was about, but he really felt Hoseok's absence when no one was there to buffer their fights just as one of them had enough.
Even if he had to admit that they fought less and actually talked more. They even hit the gym together sometimes... which usually escalated into training regime competitions, but Jungkook didn't mind when he had so much fun beating Jimin at his own game. Or when the older showcased his generous-hyung side and treated him to good food afterwards.
Those definitely helped to suffer through Jimin's turn of moods and constant nagging.
'It's all in motherly love.' Jimin usually told him. 'I care for your lanky , so deal with it.'
Then he usually proceeded to demolish any kindness that he showed by teasing him for one thing or another.
Jungkook's head hurt just trying to figure his behavior out...
Too complicated.Jungkook was looking for Hoseok when the ending part of his choreography didn't come together and Jimin turned out to be no help at all, like usual. He wanted to ask for his advice and since he didn't reply to his texts he decided to try his room...
The door was slightly ajar and muffled conversation filtered out when he knocked.
'Come in!' Jimin yelled and Jungkook stepped inside, finding Jimin on his bed with Taehyung leaning against his back, absentmindedly playing on his phone.
'Hi Jungkookie!' Taehyung immediately perked up as Jimin stared at him in surprise. 'Looking for Hoseok-hyung?' he asked, pushing at Jimin so he could lay back more comfortably on him.
'Uh, yeah. I am.' Jungkook nodded, feeling awkward in the seemingly cozy atmosphere – he knew that the two were friends of course, but seeing Jimin so openly relaxed was not something he was used to. And he didn't bother to clam up either, surprise melting into curiosity as he tilted his head.
'He didn't come back after work and he didn't reply so...' Taehyung grinned with a knowing glint in his eyes. 'Maybe try the upper most floor.'
Jungkook blushed at the implication. 'Hyung...'
'Stop corrupting the poor maknae.' Jimin said, jostling Taehyung.
Their alien only dignified that with a raised eyebrow.
'Many would agree that I'm not as bad as you.' Jimin answered the silent mockery.
'Fine, I will let this go since it's still your birthday.' Taehyung waved dismissively and this time Jungkook raised an eyebrow in question.
'Birthday?'
'Jimin accomplished another year without another inch to boot his height, a sad day in history.' Taehyung said in a serious voice, brushing away imagined tears.
'.' Jimin snorted, rolling on his bed and throwing Taehyung off in the process.
Jungkook felt stupid standing there, he had no idea that it was Jimin's birthday...
'I dragged you to all your favorite places and this is how you thank me.' Taehyung sighed, looking awfully comfortable on the floor.
'Thanks.' Jimin grinned, throwing down a pillow that landed neatly on Taehyung's face.
'Happy Birthday I guess...' Jungkook said, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
'Thank you.' Jimin smiled, sitting up with lazy grace that Jungkook sometimes envied and tilted his head to the side. 'No birthday kiss?'
Jungkook rolled his eyes at that.
'I can give you one.' Taehyung volunteered, sitting upright with a grin and avoided a punch aimed at him. But before he could offer anything more controversial, his phone chimed with a new text. 'Oh lookie, I have somewhere else to be! Play nice.' he sang and skipped out of the room with a parting wink.
'That idiot.' Jimin chuckled, running a hand through his hair.
'I guess I will go too...'
'Oh come on, stay. Let's watch a movie or something.' Jimin offered, patting the space on his bed and Jungkook glanced at him uncertainly. 'I will let the kiss go.'
'Fine.' Jungkook sighed, dropping down on Hoseok's bed and glanced at Jimin who reached for his laptop to search for something watchable.
'Don't feel bad that you didn't know about my birthday. I like to keep it a secret.' Jimin said, looking at Jungkook with a shrug.
'How come?' Jungkook asked, intrigued. Jimin always seemed to like being in the center of attention and he thought that someone like him would celebrate loudly and wildly... Or definitely with a girl, or either a boy, since they were talking about Jimin.
'I don't want fake congratulations, I definitely don't want to deal with drunk asses and I especially don't want to spend it with someone I don't know.' Jimin smiled. 'So I talk to my family, tease my little brother and gladly forgo presents in favor of actually spending time with friends.'
Jungkook blinked, it was such an honest answer without any of the usual bravado that he couldn't respond at first.
'That sounds nice.' he said finally. 'I like it that way too.'
Jimin glanced at him with a surprised but soft smile and Jungkook shrugged with a smile of his own.
'The only difference is that I got teased by my older brother.' he added and Jimin laughed heartily at his pained expression.
'Come on, choose a movie while I open up Chef Jin's super secret birthday containers of food.' Jimin grinned, waving Jungkook over to his laptop as he climbed out of bed to snatch up said containers that were decorated with fluffy ribbons.
Jungkook choose an action movie and discovered way into it that Jimin got easily scared by probably anything that happened too unexpectedly. From then it was more fun to watch his reactions and to then paying attention to the actual plot.
His high pitched yelps when he hid behind a pillow were decidedly cute.
Hoseok might have been right after all. Jimin was capable of being a cutie pie.
Speaking of his hyung, he didn't come back even as they started on their second movie and Jungkook didn't know when they both fell asleep, but by the time he woke up at 6 it was still only them.
'Hyung.' he whispered, poking Jimin who was sleeping peacefully on his laptop.
'Five more minutes.' he whined, wrinkling his nose and Jungkook chuckled at the display.
'Come on, hyung. We have to get ready for classes.'
Jimin just reached over the gap between the two beds and grabbed Jungkook's arm. 'Please, shut up.'
Jungkook glanced down at the hold, but decided to leave it at that. They had time after all.
He dozed off for a few minutes and woke to someone moving around the room silently.
'Oh, hyung. Morning.' Jungkook blinked, recognizing Hoseok who packed his stuff – fresh coffee and breakfast neatly placed next to it. Just how early did he get up...and just where did he sleep?
'Hi, Jungkook.' he smiled, not at all surprised to find him asleep in his bed. 'I didn't know you slept here, I would have brought you breakfast as well.'
'It's okay.' Jungkook reassured him, sitting up to stretch.
'Did someone say breakfast?' Jimin mumbled, one eye opening as he raised slowly from his nest of blankets. His hair was a mess, and he blinked dazedly around.
Jungkook stifled a grin, too bad he couldn't take a picture.
'Aw, you are too adorable.' Hoseok chuckled. 'And yeah, breakfast is on the table.'
'Where were you?' Jimin questioned, blindly patting around for his laptop to put it away.
'That's a secret.' Hoseok grinned, and Jungkook was finally awake enough to notice how bright and relaxed he was. He seemed to glow.
'Fine, don't tell me anything.' Jimin pouted.
'I won't. But I owe a breakfast to somebody so I will be out soon.' Hoseok hummed, zipping his bag up. 'Oh, and I want to introduce you to Yoongi-hyung. Could you guys behave during practice?'
'Well it wouldn't be dignified to be scolded by you on our very first meeting.' Jimin nodded, eyes tracing Hoseok's face curiously.
'Don't worry. I'm sure you will have plenty of chances to lose your dignity in front of him.' Hoseok grinned, ruffling his hair up.
'Hyung. That makes it seem like he has any dignity to lose.' Jungkook deadpanned, making Hoseok laugh loudly while Jimin turned to him with a scowl.
'Brat. Just wait until I have coffee in me. Then you are going down.'
'Then I'm leaving before that could happen. ' Jungkook grinned, getting out of bed before Jimin could throw anything at him.
'I will show you during practice.' Jimin said, pointing a finger at Jungkook with a determined frown. 'Till then, let me sleep five more minutes.'Yoongi was there for their practice along with Taehyung, and even though Jimin was busy picking a fight with him for the morning remark, he observed the music prodigy with interest.
He had his eyes on Hoseok and Taehyung was smiling non-stop at his side, and as the day went on he began to admit that Jin-hyung theories might have been true.
Especially when Yoongi fit into their rag-tag circle of friends with ease - and even the blind could see how Hoseok lit up around the sarcastic musician.
It was intriguing to see, but Hoseok dodged the topic whenever Jungkook tried to talk about it.'You have a really nice voice.' Yoongi smiled, surprising Jungkook as he sat down next to him after classes.
Jungkook always thought that the older hit it off better with Jimin, and he had a hunch that was partly his fault too. He respected him too much to be as casual as he was around his other hyungs.
'Thank you.' he smiled shyly, playing absentmindedly with the straps of his bag.
'I won't bite.' Yoongi grinned. 'And I mean it. Namjoon couldn't shut up about it.'
Jungkook smiled back with more confidence then, blush tinting his cheeks. 'I just sang a demo for him, nothing special.'
'Just sang a demo you say...' Yoongi shook his head at him. 'Maknae, you know how good you are, right?'
'Of course I'm good.' Jungkook deadpanned, making Yoongi laugh.
'You could make the others run for their money in confidence.'
'It's a competitive relationship we have.'
Yoongi gave him an interesting look then, as if he wanted to ask something but the moment passed and the older glanced away with a neutral look. 'Will you guys stay for the fall break? With Hoseok, I mean.'
'Yeah, it's easier to stay for the competition...' Jungkook shrugged, only to be cut off by a shrill voice.
'Hey, brat!'
'And it's easier then traveling back home with him. Busan is a long trip...' he sighed, standing up as Jimin jogged towards them.
Yoongi chuckled at him and Jungkook grinned back in silent agreement as Jimin came to a stop beside them.
'Hi, hyung! Mind if I steal him?'
'Mind if I protest?' Jungkook asked back as Yoongi waved them off, but Jimin simply get hold of his arm and dragged him away. 'What are you doing?'
'Saving you from embarrassing yourself in front of your idol.' Jimin snapped in an irritated voice. 'You seemed to blush an awful lot.'
'Since when did you stalk me? And what does that even mean?' Jungkook frowned. 'I only talked to him like a normal human being. And yeah I respect him, what of it?'
Jimin mumbled an answer at that, his shoulders hunched in annoyment and Jungkook tried to convince himself that he didn't really say 'more like crushing on him' as he dragged him away.
Because there was no way Jimin would care, even if he did.
