Elizabeth's POV
Waking up the next morning, I realize that my alarm clock has been turned off and my usually locked bedroom door is open.
Jumping up with fright, I notice the time is 9:47. Great. Not only is my father going to kill me, but I'm also late for school. It's the second day too!
Quickly grabbing a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, a long sleeve pink shirt, a black vest and black vans, I threw the clothes on.
Literally sprinting into the bathroom, I brush my teeth, hair and do a quick make-up job to cover up the bruise on my cheek from last nights events.
Grabbing my phone and a warm, black winter jacket for the quickly dropping temperature outside. Monday is September first and it's already colder than my fathers heart!
Slinging my worn backpack strap over my shoulder, I rush down stairs, only to find two people I was definitely not expecting.
"Hello, Sweetheart! Adalyn told us you had plans this whole weekend, so we decided to come down early and go to the mall. We can get birthday Mani Pedis, get your hair done, get massages and I will have just enough money to afford one set of undergarments from Victoria Secret! Are you excited?" My very excited grandmother exclaims in glee.
Cautiously looking around the house, I see my father is no where in sight. Allowing myself to sink into my grandmothers warm embrace, I let out a sigh of content.
"I missed you, Grandma." I whisper.
"I missed you too, sweetheart! Your grandfather will stay here and chat with our son, catch up on manly things, while you and I have a nice, relaxing day out." She replied cheerily.
Did I mention my grandparents were born in England? Which means they have a very pronounced, very awesome English accent.
Before any other thoughts could run through my head, I quickly hugged my grandfather before giving a worried glance up the stairs, hoping my father wasn't listening.
"Grandpa all by himself? With my father? I don't think that's a good idea..." I reply hesitantly. My grandpa may have been in the navy, but he's already 73. I don't think he could take my dad on.
Grandma shares a quick glance with my grandpa. "What's wrong with that, dear?"
My breath catching in my throat, I slowly walk into the kitchen, grabbing an apple off the counter and taking a hasty bite into it. "I'm just thinking, you guys are only visiting today, so shouldn't we spend the whole day together? It's almost been a year since I've seen you!" I quickly make up the lie, hoping they buy it.
Lapping up my lie like water, my Grandmother gives a flick of her wrist. "Oh, don't worry honey! After our day, your Grandpa and Dad will be joining us for dinner."
"Oh. Yay." I say as enthusiastically as possible, but it only coming out as a weak whimper.
Usually right before school starts, my grandparents fly me to their place and I stay there a week before school starts.
This year, I didn't have enough money, so I stayed here and worked as many shifts as possible. At this rate, I might be able to afford college a year after I graduate.
"Well, we best be going. Tell me, does your father always sleep in so late?" Grandma asks with a disapproving tone.
"Uhm, I'm not sure. Usually I'm at work or school long before now." I reply carefully, tiptoeing over the subject of my father.
