Chapter 1 - Nothing

______________________

Hot summer wind swept through my dirty-blonde waves.

The ocean of the magnificent beaches of Australia,

I could already smell it's salty water,

It's soft white sand, I can touch.

It was officially summer. I was so excited going back to Australia. Where the fresh salty waves awaits my present.

I'm Melanie Jade Gertrude , an ordinary teenager who studies for her dream, passion and mostly fame. I live with my dad, Oliver, my stepmom, Juleen and my older stepbrother, Drake here in a very peaceful subdivision in San Francisco, California, USA. My biological mother is April Gertrude-Jones. She is currently living in Liverpool, Australia with her so-called new family.

Why my mother is in Australia?

Why does she have a new family?

My parents filed their divorce 10 years ago. I was almost 6 years old back then. They split up all because of my mother. When my mom went to Australia to take a quick 2 month vacation, she met her so-called true love, Anderson Jones, a native Australian like her as well. In that 2 month vacation, it became her permanent stay there. They were engaged. But they can not marry each other until my dad signs the divorce papers.

I could remember the pain my dad went through in those days. I can remember how he would always slam the door shut when he got home. Those days that he would always cry and shout 'WHY?!' to cry his way to sleep. He really loved his wife, my mom. But my mom didn't care. Its been almost 10 years, my hatred for my mom is 'bit by bit' fading.

My dad remarried after 2 years. My dad's joy and happiness was revived when he met and married Juleen. I loved Juleen even more than my mom because she was the reason my dad felt loved again.

Every summer, I go to my mom's house in Australia, to be able to bond with her. But everytime I saw my mom, my heart beated fast, feeling two things: hatred and missed. It was a mixed emotion. The only purpose that I go to my mom's is because of the beautiful beaches. My dad used to tell me that I was the 'Queen of the Sea' because of my great ability to surf. I got talent from my mom's brother or my uncle Finn.

"Melanie!" my bestfriend, Amy called out.

"Yeah?" I asked her while sipping my stepmom's famous chocolate drink.

It was the last day of school, which means summer was on our way. My post-summer attitude was already messed up because of the 2 hour traffic we were in. We were in our school bus on our way to our homes.

"Look at that!" Amy said as she pointed out a boy at the front seat of the bus wearing a cap, which we can not see his face.

"Why him?" I asked curiously and disgusted at the same time.

"He's kind of cute" Amy complimented him.

"Ugh. Amy, your parents didn't let you study to flirt with a boy you haven't even seen or known" I nagged her.

"Oh c'mon Mel! I'm not even flirting yet!" Amy insisted.

"Am (pronounced as aim), you haven't even seen his face yet!" I told her.

"Well, you got a point" she said.

"I always do" I told her boastfully.

"Omigod! Look! He's about to turn around!" Amy excitedly told me, gripping my arm harder than before.
