Ashton and Layla sat beside each other as they waited for their turn on-stage. Layla was playing with a lock of her hair, while Ashton was just staring blankly at the wall. They were silent. They both knew what was happening.
“Ash, how are you holding up?”
“Don’t worry about me, Layla. Okay lang ako. Ikaw? How are you holding up?”
“Okay ka ba talaga? You look more down than I am.”
“Nagpapatawa ka ba? You look like the sky fell on you.”
“How could I not be sad? Look at us, Ashton. Naglulugmok tayo dito habang nagsasaya sina Julie at Elmo.”
“Tama ka. Ang unfair nila.”
“LayTon, you’re on in twenty seconds. Once JuliElmo exits, pasok kayo agad.” A guy instructed. They both nodded and stood up and waited for their entrance. Twenty seconds elapsed and Julie and Elmo exited where Ashton and Layla were waiting. They crossed paths, LayTon glared at them while JuliElmo tried not to look. JuliElmo knew that they were looking. When they went their separate ways, Julie and Elmo let out a sigh of relief.
“I feel so guilty, Moe.”
“Julie, I feel the same way. Pero hindi ko pinagsisisihan ang pag-iibigan natin.”
“I don’t regret it either. I just wish we found a way to love each other without having to hurt anyone.”
“What do you want to do then?”
“I don’t know eh.”
“Gagawin ko naman ang lahat… Basta ‘wag mo lang akong iwan ha? I love you.”
“Ikaw talaga. I love you too.” Julie answered him. Meanwhile, on stage, Layla was looking at them. Envious of how Julie hugged Elmo, how Elmo kissed her cheek, how they held hands as they walked away. “Psst, Lay! Narinig mo ba yung sinabi ni Direk? Huy!” Ashton called her attention.
“Ano ba!?”
“Layla, ‘wag kang magalit sa akin. Wala akong ginagawa sa’yo!”
“Galit talaga ako sa’yo! Ba’t kasi hindi mo niligawan ng mabuti si Julie!? Kung ginawa mo ‘yun eh di sana hindi tayo nagkakaproblema ngayon!”
“Eh sa hindi niya nga ako gusto! At Layla tayo ang magkakampi dito!”
“Sorry.” Layla muttered, realizing that Ashton was right. They were the allies here. They were supposed to help each other. She moved closer towards him. “Sorry na… Naiinis lang talaga ako eh. Dapat kasi ako ang nasa pwesto ni Julie. Dapat kasi ako ang girlfriend ni Elmo eh.” Her voice cracked.
“Eh ako din naman eh. Dapat ako yung boyfriend ni Julie Anne.”
“Dapat kasi may gawin tayo eh.”
“Ano pa ba ang magagawa natin? It’s not like they’re breaking up.”
“You can’t be so sure. No relationship is perfect.”
“What are you planning to do, Lay?”
“Ashton, we’re going to break them up.”
