“Finally! A day off!” Elmo said as he laid his head on Julie’s lap. Julie giggled and ran her hand through his hair. He took hold of that hand and kissed it gently. “This reminds me of when we were in the States.” Julie voiced out. Elmo took a deep breath when he saw Julie’s change in expression. “Baby, smile… You know I hate seeing you sad.” He touched her face and a smile immediately appeared. “Mahal na mahal kita, Magalona.” She said. “Mahal na mahal din kita, San Jose.” He answered as he scrunched up his nose. Julie giggled. He was just so cute.

“Alam mo, Babe.” He said as he sat up and looked at Julie. “There’s something that we haven’t done in a while.”

“What is it?”

“This.” Elmo touched her face gently. He placed his hand under her chin and he moved closer towards her. He planted a kiss on her lips and all she could do was smile against it. Julie pulled away from him and hit his arm playfully. “Bakit?” Elmo asked, giggling. “Ayaw mo?” He continued.

“Gusto…” She said shyly.  “Wala lang… I guess, I just missed that.” She continued.

“Missed what?”

“Gusto mo talagang sabihin ko noh? Okay! I missed kissing you.”

A naughty smile appeared on Elmo’s face. “Hoy, bakit ganyan yung mukha mo, Magalona?” Julie asked.

“Miss mo pala yung mga kiss ko eh… Kaya bibigyan kita ng maraming marami para hindi mo na mamiss.”

“Magalona! Ayaw ko ng ganyan ha!?”

“You’re the one who said that you missed it!” Elmo laughed.

“Well, okay na yung isa.” Julie defended.

“Miss ko rin naman eh… Kaya please, one last kiss…” Elmo said again.

“Ayoko nga…” Julie said as she stood up and turned away from him. Elmo sighed and stood up as well. He wrapped his arms around her waist and placed his head on her shoulder. Now, he was hugging her from the back. “Please, babe? Isa lang.” Elmo begged. Julie breathed out heavily and turned around to face him. His arms were still around her waist. She smiled at him and placed her hands on his nape. “Sige na nga…” Elmo smiled as their foreheads touched. He kissed her again.

“I love you, Julie.”

“I love you too, Elmo.”

KNOCK! KNOCK!

“Istorbo naman yun…” Elmo complained as he let go of Julie and walked towards the door.

“Hi, Elmo!” Layla greeted him as she kissed his cheek.

“Lay? Anong ginagawa mo dito?”

“Binibisita ka. Tita Pia told me it was your day off.”

“Um… I’m kinda with someone right now.”

“Who-“

“-Elmo, sin-“ Julie saw Layla at the doorstep. The smiles on their faces faded and then there was silence.

“Julie, nandito ka pala. Sorry, I didn’t know that Elmo had company.”

“Okay lang.Would you like to join us? Elmo cooked lasagna and we were just about to eat it.”

“’Wag na… I wouldn’t want to intrude.”

“No, okay lang talaga… Come on in.” Julie said with a smile. Elmo was just quiet. Layla walked inside and headed for the dining room. She’s obviously been there before because she didn’t need directions. While she was in the dining room, Elmo pulled Julie toward the corner of the room so that they could talk privately.

“What are you doing?” Elmo whispered.

“Inviting Layla to eat with us. Why?” Julie answered in a quiet tone.

“Why are you inviting her?”

“Babe, naman… She’s your friend. I’m your girlfriend. I want for us to get along.”

“But you know our past.”

“I know, maybe this way… We can move past that. Trust me. Everything’s gonna be fine.”

Julie sat beside Layla while Elmo served them. Afterwhich, he sat beside Julie which was across Layla.

“The food’s great, Moe.” Layla said in between bites.

“Thanks.” He answered her.

“Elmo, I came over to give you this pala.”

Layla placed a necklace on the table. It was silver and it had a small heart-shaped pendant on it. She pushed it towards Elmo and he slowly picked it up.

“Is this-“

“-It’s the gift you gave me back when you were courting me. You said that if I was ready to be with you, I should wear it… But I guess that’s not happening anymore.”

“But… I gave this to you and it belongs to you. You should keep it.”

“No, I don’t want to be reminded of what could have been... What are we doing, Elmo? Julie’s right here and we’re talking as if she’s not in the room. Julie, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have come here.” Layla apologized as she stood up and attempted to leave.

“Layla, wait! Don’t leave.” Julie said.

“No, Julie. I’m just ruining everything. I’ll show myself out.”

Layla left and Julie and Elmo were left standing there. “Elmo, ba’t ‘di mo siya pinigilan!?”

“Why did I have to stop her!? Obvious naman na ayaw niya dito.”

“Elmo, kaibigan mo yun!”

“Julie, narinig mo naman yung mga pinagsasabi niya di ba? If she didn’t leave I’m sure mas marami siyang sasabihing makakasakit sa’yo.”

“And how do you know na makakasakit yun sa akin? It’s not like nagpapaapekto ako dun. Katotohanan yung mga sinasabi ni Layla!”

“Girlfriend kita and hearing another girl saying those things about your boyfriend should hurt you!”

“It should. But that’s only for girls who don’t trust their boyfriends. Bakit? Should I not trust that whatever you had with Layla is over?”

“Ano ba namang tanong yan, Julie!? Ikaw lang ang mahal ko! Ikaw lang at wala nang iba!” Elmo sat down, feeling the energy drained from him. “Look at us, Julie. Ba’t ba tayo nag-aaway? Ayoko lang naman na may masabi siya na makakasakit sa’yo eh. The three of us together isn’t good. Kung gusto mong kausapin ko siya, I’ll talk to her.” Julie looked at him and saw how serious he was. She shook her head, feeling guilty with how she treated him. She moved closer and she sat on his lap. She wrapped her arms around his neck, unable to hold in her tears. “Sorry na, baby… Ayoko rin na nag-aaway tayo.” Julie said in between sobs. Elmo hugged her, planting soft kisses on her shoulder. “’Wag ka nang umiyak, baby. Sorry na rin. I love you… Kaya smile na.” Elmo whispered in her ear. He buried his head in the crook of her neck.

“I love you too.”
