“So, how long have you and Elmo known each other?” Layla asked her, keeping her eyes on the road. It pained her to act so cool around Julie, knowing that she had Elmo’s heart on her sleeve.
“Matagal ko na siyang kilala pero we became friends nung nag-duet kami ng Pyramid.”
“Oh… Your first duet.” She tried acting all happy but on the inside, she was dying.
“Yup. Ang cute-cute niya pa noon.”
“Bakit ngayon? Hindi na ba siya cute?” Her eyes still on the road.
“Gwapo na siya kasi ngayon eh… Well, enough about us… Kayo? How did you guys meet?” Julie smiled.
“We were in high school, our mutual friend had a party. He wasn’t in showbiz yet while I was already starring in my second teleserye. Our friend introduced us to each other and that’s when we became friends.”
“Is it okay if I ask you something?”
“Sure…”
“I noticed you and Ash are very close… Is there something going on between the two of you?”
She smirked at the idea of her and Ashton being a couple. That would never happen. Not in a million years, Elmo was the only guy she’d ever love and she knew that Ashton felt the same way for Julie.
“I like him...”
“Like like him, like him?”
“Yes…”
“Nanliligaw ba siya?”
“… Oo.” Layla lied.
“Sinabi mo sa kanya na nanliligaw ako sa’yo!?” Ashton exclaimed.
“It’s part of my plan, Ashton. The more she believes that we are unavailable, the more she will believe that we do not have any motives against them!” Layla placed both of her hands on his shoulders. “So calm down… You know what this means right? Everything we do that would look like we’re flirting with them, wouldn’t be seen that way. Julie and Elmo will always keep it in their minds that we like each other and we would never cheat on each other. Sooner and later, they will fall for our charm through our innocent and genuine acts of kindness. They won’t even know that we were destroying their relationship from the inside.”
“But Layla, don’t you know what that means? That means we have to at like we love each other…”
“I can deal with that… I’m an actress… I act like a lovestruck dummy for a living. I think I can handle acting like I love you. But the question here, my dear Ashton, is can you handle me?” An evil smile crept on her face. “Now, do we have to practice? Honey? Sweetie? Baby?” Layla smirked.
“No need for that… Honey…” Ashton answered as he breathed out heavily.
“Good. Now, gimme a kiss.” She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and she patted his shoulder. “Now that wasn’t so bad, wasn’t it?” She laughed as if she was enjoying Ashton’s misery.
“Ashton, calm down… Everything will fall into place. Elmo will be mine and Julie will be yours. Have a little faith…” She said as she walked away.
Ashton didn’t really know what to feel. He was unsure if Layla’s plan was going to work, but he had no choice now… Either he plays along or he ruins the entire thing. One thing was for sure… He wasn’t going to give up on Julie. No matter what.
