Luke's pov

Today was the day of my trial, so I most certainly didn't try to sleep in this morning. Not that I really could anyways, but I've just been in a out of the system for so long that it doesn't even bother me anymore. I stand in front of the mirror adjusting my stupid tie on my neck and buttoning up the dress shirt that I was given. Apparently in order to at least have a chance to be free, you had to look like you cared.

"Your up." My attorney, Steve says.

I sigh and turn around, doing a small spin to signify that I don't have anything on me. Steve nods and leads me the way we were supposed to go. As we walk down the hallway, I try to control my breathing. Even though I've been through this before, I can't say that I'm not scared that I won't make it out alive. We turn the corner that leads to an open door, and the whole court room that sits all the awaiting people.

As I enter, all eyes suffocate me. I quickly scan the crowd to find any familiar faces, but I look away too fast to know if anyone is there. I take my place at the assigned desk/ table. The guy that I knocked out sits in the stand practically shaking in his seat.

"Do you swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth?" The judge says.

"Of course." The boy nods.

"What were you doing the night you got in a fight with Luke Hemmings?"

"I-I was out with some friends and we decided to go paintballing."

"And is it true that you saw Luke's group go into the paintball arena, and that's why all the sudden you wanted to go?" Steve asks him. My curiosity grows as he speaks, my ears perking up to listen.

"N-no. We were out to have a good time and we just so happened to go to the same place as them." The guy stutters.

"So your saying that you weren't trying to provoke him by following the group into the paintball arena because you knew Madison Greenwall would be there?" My blood instantly starts boiling by the mention of her name. I want so badly to be mad at her for being here. I want so badly to blame her for everything, but I can't help but want to go to her right now. I can't help but feel protective of her. I can't for the life of me figure out why I feel this this way. I don't understand. I don't even know her.

"No, I didn't know Madison would be there." He responds too quickly.

"So you know her?" Steve assumes. He doesn't answer. "Peter, do you need me to repeat myself?" Steve steps closer to, I now know him as Peter.

"That's enough questions!" Peter's attorney exclaims.

"He didn't answer my question. I'll be done as soon as he answers."

"Come on Peter, it's over. Take a seat."

"No-"

"Silence!" The judge orders. "Luke Hemmings, you are summoned to the stand."

I look over to Steve, knowing I wouldn't budge if he didn't give me a sign to. Finally he nods to me to go, so I stand up and begin walking to my doom. I scan the crowd again, seeing as I'm now in front of everyone. Michael's flaming red hair is enough to make me recognize him. Beside him sits Calum and Ashton. Ashton gives me a slight thumbs up and the 'ok' symbol.
Peter's attorney approaches the stand. "Good morning, I'm Attorney Randal Howard." He puts his hand out, but I don't take it. I don't even reply to him. Strike one, probably. "Fair enough." He wipes his hands against each other, turning back to his desk for a short moment.

"Do you swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth?" The judge has to ask me.

"Yep." I nod. Waiting for Peter's attorney to come back.
