I looked down at my vanilla ice cream that had started to melt, turning into an odd murky brown color as it mixed with the rainbow sprinkles. I dipped my finger into the ice cream as Mikey asked me a question, that I really didn't want to answer. Honestly, I don't even know the answer to it. Smiling mischievously as Michael finished what he was saying, I reached across the table and smeared the ice cream onto his cheek. I instantly moved over onto Calum's lap, covering my face with my hands so he couldn't get me back. There was a long, almost too long silence. All of the sudden I felt someone begin to tickle me, and my first instinct was to push their hands away. So that's what I did. Rookie mistake. As soon as I moved my hands, Michael and Ashton smeared ice cream onto both of my cheeks.
"You traitor! I can't believe you helped them!" I said, glaring at Calum who couldn't stop himself from laughing. "I can't believe you dare challenge us to a food fight, Harley. You had to know how that was going to end." Said Ashton.
"I did know how it was supposed to end. I was supposed to win but then that traitor turned on me! You said you were on my side!" I couldn't help but giggle, no matter how hard I tried to stop myself. I was always bad at acting mad when I really couldn't care less. I rolled my eyes, "Ugh, fine! You guys win this time. But I'll get you back."
Ashton just nodded, a smirk on his face as he did. I don't think these boys knew how evil I actually could be, since I'm so sweet all the time. For example, there was that one time when I changed all of the contact names in Luke's phone to numbers, or when I put green food dye into his toothpaste and his teeth were green for at least three hours. Granted, I did get grounded for all of that but it was definitely worth it.
"Harls? C'mon, we have to go now." Michael said, his hand reaching out for me to hold. I grabbed it, standing up from the wooden booth in the ice cream shop so we could leave. "Luke said he would be taking you stuff back to the hotel, let's hope he actually did since I have no clue where he is." Calum said, coming up beside me and Mikey.
"I don't know where he is either, he didn't tell me. Just said he had to leave."
We finally arrived at the hotel, and I instantly flopped onto the bed. It had been a very long flight, and all I wanted to do now was sleep. Forever. Within a few minutes, I was fast asleep on the hotel bed.
After what felt like only a few minutes, I was awake. Though I wasn't in the hotel bed anymore, I was in Luke's arms. I moved around in his arms, burying my face further into his shoulder to block out the light. I didn't want to be awake though. Luke rubbed my back once he noticed I was awake, and I wasn't sure if it was meant to make me fall back asleep or help wake me up.
"Good think your up, bug." Dang it. Definitely not the one I was hoping for. "I have to get to sound check, but I didn't want to wake you. If you wanna come watch, I'll carry you there if you want to." I simply nodded a reply, though I knew it didn't exactly answer his question. But Luke understood me, like he always has. He also knew I was always extremely grumpy when I first woke up.
He carried me out towards the stage, and I had my hand over my face and I still tried to block the light out. Jet lag can be so annoying sometimes. "Lukey? Are there gonna be fans there?"
"Only a few. The ones who got tickets to sound check will be."
"Oh, alright. Why do you have to have sound check all the time? Doesn't it get annoying." By this time, we had made it backstage and we're just waiting for them to start, Luke had sat down in a chair with me still on his lap.
"No, it doesn't get annoying. You know how at your dance competitions, they have a those minutes before the competition where you can go on the stage and see if it's slippery or not?" He only knew about that, because I told him. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised he even remembered it. "It's kind of like that. Every place is different, so we just have to play a few songs to make sure everything is working the way it's supposed to."
These types of conversations with Luke were my favorites. The ones where we weren't talking about anything important, just talking about random things. No fighting. And that makes me happy. After a few more minutes of just talking about random things, like how gross we both thought chocolate covered bacon would be, he had to go on stage. I stayed seated in the chair, my fingers fiddling with the guitar pick he had given me right before he got up.
The boys played a two songs, then sat down at the edge of the stage to answer some questions. This reminded me of the last time I was there for one of their sound checks, and I had went on stage. I don't think I was going to do that this time. Just wasn't in the right mood for that right now.
A few minutes went by, and I honestly considered getting up and going back to the dressing room. Until a question about me came up, and I was suddenly interested. "Is Harley here?" It was a simple question kinda boring, and Luke just answered with a short "yes". But what followed it was not at all boring.
"She's so annoying. Like honestly, she actually thinks she can dance? Cause she's horrible. And she just causes so much shit. You would be better off if Harley wasn't even here." My heart sank and I almost felt sick. The insults from this girl kept coming, and I felt like my legs were just going to give out and I would fall to the floor. To my surprise, when I told my feet to move they did, but then I couldn't get them to stop.
I ran away, as far as I possibly could. Which ended up being outside the venue, where fans were lined up at fence hoping to see the boys. I didn't care that they were there though, as my legs gave out and I fell to the ground. This all just confirmed the thoughts I've always had. The boys are better off without me.
